fizzy Posted September 24, 2017 #1 Share Posted September 24, 2017 While checking out deck plans this morning on the Explorer, I wondered what ever happened to "the study" or the concept of it? I never seem to see any mention made of this area. Has the space been used for something different than what was originally planned....and if so what? thanx

They had too many issues with guests who were previously allowed to use it not being able to invite friends in lower suites. The Regent Suite guests are allowed to invite anyone they want. We were in an Explorer Suite and that gained us entry.

The Regent Suite is so over the top gorgeous that the only time I can see them wanting to utilize the space is if they wanted to have a sit down dinner for 25 people. Other than that, why leave the most beautiful suite on the ship to go into a nicely decorated closet with windows?

Our butler made a point of calling on us at our suite at reservation time to personally escort us there. It was a nice touch. The idea of using it for a sit down dinner for 25 plus serving staff in that size space seems a bit too cozy an idea though.

Was there anyone else there when you dined there? When we were there, we were the only couple which was more than strange. The part that really bothered me was wanting to invite a couple that we were cruising with that were not in a Explorer or above suite and was told that we could not do that. This didn't make sense since the "dining room" (using that term loosely) was empty and it wasn't like the meal was special -- we simply could order from the P7 or Chartreuse menus. IMO, this space should be used for groups -- larger than what can be accommodated in CR or other dining venues. And, it should be by reservation -- first come - first served. P.S. I mentioned 25 people because I don't remember how many people could be seated in that area and thought that one long table might work.

jonsmum Posted September 26, 2017 #10 Share Posted September 26, 2017 We had a tour of Explorer last Friday. My understanding from what was said, is that the Private Dining Room is exclusively available to Regent Suite guests, who can invite whoever they please to dine with them. jonsmum Posted September 27, 2017 #12 Share Posted September 27, 2017 If this is the case, what a waste of space. Rick True, but if you are paying in excess of $10,000 per person per night (!!! Yes that is actually what we were told the Regent suite costs!!!) ........................................................!!
flossie009 Posted September 27, 2017 #13 Share Posted September 27, 2017 If this is the case, what a waste of space. Rick Although Explorer is a fabulous ship, there are a number of areas where space utilisation could have been better thought through at the design stage (IMHO). Hopefully Explorer 2 will benefit from the feedback from passengers and crew.
Travelcat2 Posted September 27, 2017 #14 Share Posted September 27, 2017 True, but if you are paying in excess of $10,000 per person per night (!!! Yes that is actually what we were told the Regent suite costs!!!) ........................................................!! Yes - that suite is over the top expensive. We have toured the suite twice and, as mentioned above, you can have great parties either inside or on the deck of the suite. However, the one thing that could be difficult is having a sit down dinner with more than 8-10 people. I suppose that this is where the extra area could be utilized. Unfortunately, there is no ambience in that room - especially when compared to the Regent suite. I believe the idea for this space came from Oceania's two newest ships. They have a room (Privee) in between their steak and Italian restaurants. This room, however, is absolutely gorgeous (we have dined there) with oversized white baby crocodile throne chairs, backlit onyx-clad walls, etc. When it was first debuted, this area had a dedicated chef, special menu and was ultra pricey. After a while, there was no longer a dedicated chef and passengers could choose the menu from either dining venue. If you want to dine there now, it would cost $250 per evening for a party of up to 10 guests. The good part is that it is open to anyone that wants to dine there. If this was done, we would definitely book a dinner there (note: I believe that the area - with existing tables - seats around 40 people (could be 35). Not sure how this would fly on Regent. Regent guests would likely expect more than just having menu's from two restaurants. It would need to be more along the line of the Connoisseur Wine lunch with special items pair with wine. Regent could probably get the same price as they get for their wine pairing lunches which would bring in considerably more money than only $250 per evening.
