FLSteve11 Posted September 26, 2017 #26 Share Posted September 26, 2017 If my memory is correct, thought I saw Hairspray on Allure in April 2011. Yes I'm pretty sure that's right, with Chicago on Oasis. I believe it was a shortened one from the broadway version at 90 minutes Sent from my iPhone using Forums

Rare little britain Posted September 26, 2017 Author #28 Share Posted September 26, 2017 I saw Hairspray on Oasis and now will again on Symphony I saw Mamma Mia on Quantum and again on Allure I saw Grease on Harmony (twice) and again on Independence next week!! I saw Saturday Night Fever on Liberty - now that was bad!! I was hoping for Jersey Boys but I understand that the NCL Bliss has got there first; I saw Legally Blonde on NCL Getaway (I think) and that was well done. skiiergirl Posted September 26, 2017 #29 Share Posted September 26, 2017 (y)<3(y) I was told by someone I thought was a reliable source that it was going to be "Les Miserables" or "Les Miz". So when I saw Hairspray....I rejoiced. Even though I enjoyed the Les Miz on Broadway.....I felt it was a bit HEAVY for a cruise ship. Of course I wish Royal would of purchased Jersey Boys or Wicked for Symphony. That would if been Super Fantastic!! Still love ya.....Skiiergirl!! Hope to see ya in the future. Aquahound Posted September 26, 2017 #30 Share Posted September 26, 2017 I thought it (Hairspray) was the original show on Oasis. Correct, and then it moved to Freedom.
Rare BillOh Posted September 26, 2017 #31 Share Posted September 26, 2017 I believe Allure had Chicago in 2011. I can testify in court that on May 3rd, 2011 I saw Chicago on Allure. You can go back in my threads started on my profile and find the evidence. I rest my case
Clarea Posted September 26, 2017 #32 Share Posted September 26, 2017 Correct, and then it moved to Freedom. Boy, I don't remember Hairspray on Freedom. I thought Freedom's big show has always been Marquee.
FLSteve11 Posted September 26, 2017 #33 Share Posted September 26, 2017 I believe that is backwards, Oasis had Hairspray and Allure had Chicago. Boy my memory is off. LuCruise Posted September 26, 2017 #34 Share Posted September 26, 2017 Well, I won't be watching it. An extra 2 hours investigating the ship. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Whatever Royal picks, there are going to be happy people and unhappy people. Personally I thought Chicago was a bad choice for a family ship. It's not kid appropriate and cuts off a lot from seeing it. I'm ok with Hairspray and think it's a good choice based on being upbeat fun musical that can be watched by all age groups...but like others am surprised that Royal picked a show that they have used already. I would have loved Wicked but it seems like a hard one to do (well) on a cruise ship.
Rare steamboats Posted September 26, 2017 #35 Share Posted September 26, 2017 Of the Freedom Class ships I was under the impression that only Liberty (Saturday Night Fever) and Independence (Grease) do have a Broadway musical. The Freedom so far has nothing. Would have been nice to move Hairspray to the Freedom and get something really new for the Symphony. steamboats
ptf2009 Posted September 26, 2017 #36 Share Posted September 26, 2017 We were on Oasis in 2012 and saw Hairspray and had a backstage tour. We are going on Allure for the first time in May and we can't wait to see Mamma Mia! "Grease" on Harmony was wonderful!
DEIx15x8 Posted September 26, 2017 #37 Share Posted September 26, 2017 How can they make it bigger. The original version on Oasis was the full show complete with intermission, the new shows are all the shortened Vegas ones. Will they give Symphony the full length show or a shortened one? sunsetbeachgal Posted September 26, 2017 #38 Share Posted September 26, 2017 Wonder how long Cats is going to be on Oasis? When we saw it probably 3/4 of the audience left at intermission, which was sad. Sent from my iPhone using Forums

Mikew0805 Posted September 26, 2017 #40 Share Posted September 26, 2017 Meh. It's already been on 2 ships. Enough is enough. With them naming Kristen Chenoweth as Quantum Godmother, I've been holding out hope for Wicked. Oh well. That is exactly what I was hoping for. The original version on Oasis was the full show complete with intermission, the new shows are all the shortened Vegas ones. Will they give Symphony the full length show or a shortened one? Saw Hairspray twice on Oasis. I don't recall it ever having an intermission. Both times, it was 90 minutes long. Of the Freedom Class ships I was under the impression that only Liberty (Saturday Night Fever) and Independence (Grease) do have a Broadway musical. The Freedom so far has nothing. Rare perfect match Posted September 27, 2017 #45 Share Posted September 27, 2017 I wonder who was clamoring for Hairspray on Symphony? Definitely not us! While having Hairspray as our Broadway show will not in any way ruin our cruise on Symphony, there is a pretty good chance we won't bother to go see it. It will give us more time to do other things on the ship we might not have time to do otherwise. Love you my friend....but I see it differently! Was hoping for something new. Hairspray is "been there done that" on RC! Just exhibits another cost-cutting measure by RC since they already have the set, costumes, etc! Count me in with the disappointed folks. I've seen Hairspray often enough. Even a new, expanded version will not thrill me. I can't believe Royal would recycle a former theater show when there are so many more theater shows worth considering. I agree completely with both of the posters quoted above. LuCruise Posted September 27, 2017 #48 Share Posted September 27, 2017 On the Oasis it was 90 min without an intermission. steamboats Hopefully Hairspray will be the full show then. That would make sense with the comment about 'bigger then ever' (if I'm remembering the wording correctly). I know Mamma Mia on Allure is the full show. Is Grease the full show or a shortened version?
Ocean Boy Posted September 27, 2017 #49 Share Posted September 27, 2017 If my memory is correct, thought I saw Hairspray on Allure in April 2011. Hairspray was on Oasis and Allure had Chicago. I think bringing back Hairspray is rather disappointing. I was glad to see it on Oasis but it is time for something new.
Ocean Boy Posted September 27, 2017 #50 Share Posted September 27, 2017 Correct, and then it moved to Freedom. Then why does Freedom no longer have a "Broadway style" show? On my last cruise on the ship it was the usual Royal Caribbean singers and Dancers recycled stuff.
