Hotel milano in OSJ is where we have our reservations for 10/20. Just emailed them and they answered back “sorry we have no electricity.” If I change to same day flight it’s gonna cost me $600

That's disappointing. Most airlines are being flexible with changes to SJU flights. American let me change my flights for free.

Unfortunately, Casablanca won't work for us. We need to have a pool as we are staying for three days post cruise. Does anyone else have a suggestion for a hotel? We would be there Nov 12 - 15th

Thank you!

We have a reservation at the Coral Princess in Condado for one night in January. They have a small pool and are currently open and accepting new reservations. Not sure if it's regular electricity or generator but they have power.

We need a room for Nov 11th (night before cruise) and Nov. 19 & 20 for post cruise.

Thanks for the replies.

Condado Hilton has said they will be available on 11/11. We have a room there. We were going to stay at the Embassy Suites Dorado, but canceled because we got flights out on Saturday afternoon post cruise.

I’m curious about the Best Western Plus Condado. I have a reservation for 2 pre cruise nights for my Nov 25th Adventure sailing.

I have also been toying with the idea of going to Miami instead and then flying into SJU the morning of. I’ll decide in the next 2 weeks.

I'm sailing out of San Juan in November.

Reading the role call of the Royal cruise that left this weekend, there is a poster that called their hotel's 800 number and were told it was open. They arrived two days before the cruise was to depart to find the hotel closed. This was the Sheraton -- not sure which one, but if I had to guess it was the casino/conference center.

If you are heading to San Juan any time soon, please make sure that you call the hotel directly. The call center employees don't have a clue what is going on. When I called about our hotel, the representative (who was American) seemed confused about why I was calling in the first place.

I called Hilton two nights ago about a Nov. 10 booking at the Caribe Hilton. The representative said that I was still booked and should be okay “for now.”

Michael

I emailed the general manager directly. They are evaluating damage. All reservations through Oct. 31st are canceled. They are taking no new reservations through Dec. 31st. He said they should have a better idea in about a week about my Nov. 10th reservation.

I booked Holliday Inn Express Condado as a back-up. They stated on their Facebook page that they are open as of Oct. 4th.

We called the Holiday Inn Express on Tues 10/3 and they stated they are not taking any new reservations and current reservations are considered cancelled until November and then the call dropped. Guess we'll have to call again but at this point my reservation for the 14th was cancelled.

I sent an IM on FB to the Hampton Inn in Isla Verde a few days after the storm hit. I have a

pre-paid res with them for Dec. 1.

It took a few days, as I expected, but on Sept 26 I got this message back from the manager.

I plan to check back again as we get closer, but for now I am going to take him at his word, since if they were welcoming existing reservations on Sept. 26, they certainly should be all set by Dec.

The Hilton 800# also confirmed my res.

Update - I spoke too soon.

Got a cancellation notice overnight last night. Not sure if it's just this hotel, or all Hilton properties in San Juan. It remains to be seen if they plan to refund me the prepaid amount.

JetBlue changed my flight to the day of departure without penalty. Agent was very nice and understanding.

If anybody wants to decrease hotel stress and travel part way to port first, both Jet Blue and Southwest (perhaps others) have several non-stops from Orlando to SJU every day.

Orlando is a big hub, so flying there from many places is affordable. Plenty of hotels in the airport area, or in the tourist districts.

Good luck to us all - travel is certainly an adventure. Take my cautionary tale to keep a close eye on your reservations in San Juan, if you indeed still have them, in spite of previously posted opening dates.

I have a pre-cruise confirmed reservation at the AC Hotel (Marriott) the end of this month. I've called twice (the number in Puerto Rico) and they've confirmed that they're open and "awaiting my arrival."

I also have a post-cruise reservation at the Comfort Inn. When I called today to make a change I got the call center. The woman had me hold while she confirmed that the hotel is open for guests. She came back and said that everything is fine and the hotel is up and running.

Oh no!! We have a prepaid reservation at the Hampton Inn Isla Verde for 11/9-11/11. I didn't receive a cancellation email. I spoke with someone from Hilton last week that told me I still had my reservation!

I read today that all the Isla Verde hotels remained closed. We had a booking at the Courtyard Isla Verde and it was cancelled last night by the hotel.

Wow, that's the same hotel - wonder what's up?

I did book through a third party, so my rate was probably a little lower than booking directly. The hotel may be just getting rid of their low rated reservations. I retired from the hotel industry - and I knowfor a fact that this is common practice.

The good news is that the third party agency has contacted the Hampton directly, and they are going to refund me in full.

Interesting, tho, I found out that the cancellation email that I got came from Hampton corporate, the property had not received it yet when the booking company called them this afternoon to check for me.

So, maybe call the 800 number and ask them. Try to get a person, my previous confirmation was via an automated system at the 800 #.

My cruise on the Summit is 12/2. Ritz Carlton Carolina was supposed to open today. When I called on Saturday they seemed confused why I was calling and just said they were closed. Amex called them and they advised they hoped to open 11/1. I made a backup reservation not far and called that hotel first. They say everything is working and they are opening 11/1. I will be checking back in a week. The man was very pleasant on the phone. I had to prepay this one so I don't feel like doing a 3rd backup just yet.

Since everything is so up in the air in San Juan, we are flying out the day we dock and spending two days in Fort Lauderdale. Could not get a confirmation on our reservations. Also don't feel like staying at a hotel overrun with FEMA workers.

Lost two reservations in San Juan - enough already!

I also booked thru a 3rd party.

Hi Darcy03231,

Since you are scheduled to be in San Juan later this month, I am hoping (as I am sure many others are) that you will come back and give everyone an update on your adventures in San Juan.

We are scheduled for mid December and although I am fairly confident many positive changes will happen by then, it would be great to hear from you especially since we are also booked at the AC Hotel for 2 nights pre-cruise.

Thanks in advance for sharing some news

Jed

I was supposed to stay at Ritz Carlton Nov 3. It took forever to find out any info on an opening date. Finally I was told they plan to open by the end of the year. The website also states they are not taking reservations until after 12/31.

Depending on the internet connections, my plan is to try to do a live/semi-live review. I was hoping someone from the cruise this week would do one, but other than a couple of post about the airport and transfer to the ship I haven't seen anything. I know that everyone cruising in the next few months is looking for information from cruisers on the ground, so to speak.

Darcy, I can almost promise you ahead of time that a "Live from Puerto Rico" thread would be very popular on CC.

We cruise on Jewel on Nov 26th, and I can guarantee many from our roll call would be following along!
