The holiday inn condado called to confirm my reservation Wednesday ... and Thursday called and left a message cancelling my reservation. I did tell them Wednesday when speaking with them that they were my back up reservation.

Caribe Hilton Reservation, Thanksgiving.

We have reservations 2 nights pre-cruise Nov 23-25th at the Caribe Hilton, we have not gotten any official cancellation yet, so today I called their local number in San Juan (Not 1-800-Hiltons), and was told after looking up our reservation that were are cancelled and will be notified within a couple of weeks.

She said it is a process cancelling all of these and are they are getting closer to our dates.

After reading the boards here, I made a backup reservation already with Intercontinental, which is currently open.

julesbeara above has just copied and pasted from the PuertoRicoNow website which, as has been pointed out on a number of occasions, is inaccurate.

As well as the example of Embassy suites in the post above this one another example on the list shows Hyatt House as being open on 15 October - the Hyatt House website has this message on its front page:

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Hyatt House San Juan operations have been impacted by Hurricane Maria’s recent passage through the area. The hotel is currently closed and accepting reservations for arrivals November 1, 2017 and beyond. For any questions, please call 1-800-323-7249.

Do not trust this list - check directly with someone actually in the hotel.

Not an accurate list. Some of those hotels are not taking reservations until December and the list is showing currently taking reservations. Some of the hotels that say they are currently taking reservations are canceling reservations that are 3 weeks away. They do not intend to take guests until December or January.

I called the AC Hotel where we have reservations for Jan. 5. They are open using generators know and are at half capacity. They said they expect to be up to full capacity and working normally in November. They are also taking reservations for January.

I have been following El Convento because we have reservations for our cruise in March. Seems like the are moving forward. They have no phone service and are running on a generator, but they had minimal damage and will be taking new reservations November 1 according to their Facebook page. They announced that their bar and restaurant is now open.

Just an FYI if anyone is interested.

That hotel is over $330 per night after my cruise. YIKES are you kidding?

I am flying to Florida and staying for three nights(flights and hotel) for $660 vs $1017 if I stay at the El Convento. AND I am staying at the Hilton Doubletree on the water in Fort Lauderdale. There are also leaves on the trees, electricity (not by generator) and fresh drinking water.

I need a hotel on Nov 12th - not possible - I had two hotels who ASSURED me my reservations were good in San Juan -cancel. No thanks too risky.

Hi Kat,

Good to know about El Convento. It wil be good to hear the real live feedback from the Viking Ocean cruisers who will be in San Juan beginning in another week . Viking will be doing round trips there on and off until till late March. The Celebrity Summit will also be doing their winter season out of San Juan. Neither are huge ships of RCL or NCL variety. I figure the recovery for the smaller hotels is a big plus for the town inthe coming weeks and months.

I am not worried about our reservations at Sheraton Old San Juan in March. I would love to stop by the El Convento for a drink at their roof top bar when we are there pre- cruise.

For us it’s only 1 night and it’s not until March. I’m perfectly fine with splurging. It’s a lovely property and they had very little damage. Their 2 gorgeous old trees even made it through.

To each his own. I’m very much looking forward to our stay and to tapas and Sangria in their lovely courtyard bar.

I’m watching the roll call for that cruise. Someone posted that they are on their way to Bermuda. They also said that their CC M&M was fantastic. They actually have more crew on this sailing than guests. I’d love to be on this cruise with them.

I heard the Sheraton was opening soon, too. I think Old San Juan didn’t get hit as badly as other areas. Hopefully revenue coming in there will help the other parts of the island. I heard that the Comfort Inn is also making a quick recovery.

Here is what the Sheraton OSJ wrote in my cancellation email:

Your upcoming reservation at our Sheraton Old San Juan Hotel

Dear Mr. xxxxxxxxx,

My name is xxxxxx and I am a member of our Relocation Team with Marriott International. I am reaching out in regards to your upcoming reservation with us to our Sheraton Old San Juan Hotel.

We see you are currently holding a reservation, confirmation number xxxxxxx arriving on November 17, 2017 and departing on November 18, 2017. Due the recent Hurricanes, we regret to inform you that the Sheraton Old San Juan Hotel will remain closed until the beginning of December. The hotel will be canceling all reservations with arrivals prior to November 30, 2017. We realize this may be disappointing but hope we can count on your understanding.

Oh that’s too bad. I wonder if they had damage or if they are housing relief workers. I know that’s the case with many of the hotels. I know that the Sheraton is very convenient for those who are cruising from the Old San Juan pier.

Has anyone found any currently open hotels that are going to still be open mid November? I’ve already had 2 cancel the Hyatt house and the Intercontinental. Doubletree cannot guarantee that they will be open though I do have another reservation for there. They said they will be reassessing at the end of the month. Thanks

Give Casablanca a call: https://hotelcasablancapr.com/ They are accepting reservations, but they request you call directly.

Saw Hotel Milano was added to update. I went on their website and everything is blacked out until June 2018. I have a reservation in Feb. I called and there wasn't any answer. I sent an e-mail. Hopefully they respond. I don't know what to do. Deposit is due in a few days and final payment next mo. I'm wondering if I should cancel.

I took a look at the pictures of the hotel it’s not my kind of place. But thank you!

I don’t know what kind of place IS your kind of place, but I don’t think anyone can be very picky in this current situation. I thought the Casablanca looked like a lovely property. I’d stay there.

We aren’t sailing until March and we have reservations at El Convento which is also in Old San Juan. I have been following their Facebook page and they are open. In fact, they just re-opened their bar and restaurant. They plan to start taking new reservations shortly. I think around the 1st of November.

I think the smaller boutique hotels are having an easier time opening and accepting guests. If they are running on generators even part of the time, they have smaller properties to maintain, smaller kitchens, less provisions to find and less people to provide for.

Another property I looked into even before the hurricane was the Olive Boutique Hotel. Very interesting, unique hotel - but those are MY kind of place [emoji6]

Am I the only one wondering if these hotels that are open are running A/C on the generators or just essential lights? How are they feeding their guests? How are they getting fresh supplies and water?

Again we aren’t sailing until March and I hope the situation gets at least a little better by then. I’m going to feel somewhat less guilty because I know they really do need the tourism. I figure I can at least shop. Probably won’t be able to do much of what we had planned. I do feel badly about the poor people outside San Juan who are really struggling. Hope it gets better for them soon.

I just had my reservation canceled at Sheraton Puerto Rico Hotel & casino. I actually have two reservations there for the same night 11/25. One is reward stay and the other is paid. I got the cancellation on my reward. Waiting to see if the paid one follows.

My Marriott Stellaris for the return has not canceled yet, but my talk with Marriott is it probably will be. The agent claims the hotels are stating they have no water.

Starting to wonder if this is even worth it anymore. Flights same day are over $555. I may eat $360 and cancel the entire cruise.
