What's the situation at St. Barts?

One of our port calls this coming week, on our Caribbean cruise on Crystal's Esprit, is at St, Barts. We're hearing that Gustavia, the Swedish-influenced town on this French island, is in good shape and all's normal. We're planning to head out to the beaches and outlying villages to check on the rest of St. Barts, on Wednesday (Nov. 22). Happy to answer questions. What do you want to know? Hi Carolyn. Thanks for sharing your very accurate account of the current situation of St Barts.

 

We are on the Regent Mariner, and as you know we just called there a few days ago. Our Regent "included" excursion was an hour-long ride all across the island in a local taxi-van. Our driver, who spoke great English and provided unexpectedly good commentary, also confirmed how the island's residents have pitched in to help each other to make repairs and rebuild.

 

This was our second visit to Gustavia, and we were disappointed that a delightful little restaurant on the far side of the harbor, Cote Port, was still closed. We had hoped to have lunch again at this charming place which is right on the harbor. Perhaps next time!

Hi, RJ2002. I did find that restaurants were a little thin on the ground in Gustavia -- and I also walked around the harbor to find that cute Cote Port. La Bagatelle was under construction. There were a few places along the harborfront and a few more that looked good one street in but not as many as I remember.

 

 

And of course the hotel restaurants, which are so good, aren't going to be open for awhile.

 

On the positive sign, in the Saline area, one of our go-tos (French for a "grain of salt") was open and thriving...
