easyboy Posted November 27, 2017 #2 Share Posted November 27, 2017 Thanks for the heads up. Always refer to Toms for applicable ports. Saved much and enjoyed the ports better. Sent from my iPhone using Forums

new2cruise Posted November 29, 2017 #7 Share Posted November 29, 2017 I emailed Tom and asked about the rest of the Skagway guides. This is his response: Part 2 of the Skagway guide should be complete within the next two weeks. Then I will start of Part 3 of the Skagway guide hoping to publish it in early January. I might make a few minor updates to the Ketchikan guide; not sure. I'll probably write a guide for Juneau but I was not very impressed by Juneau. There's not much in the city. GradUT Posted December 5, 2017 #8 Share Posted December 5, 2017 While I agree with Tom that there's not as much to see in Juneau as there is in the other Alaskan ports, it contains two excellent memorials, one of which is one of the most moving I have ever encountered. The first is the monument to Archie Van Winkle, the first Alaskan to receive the Medal of Honor for his actions in the Korean War. The second is the Empty Chair Memorial in honor of Japanese-American internees in WWII. (The 1942 valedictorian of Juneau High School was unable to attend graduation because he and his family were interred in a relocation camp in Idaho. His fellow students left his chair empty in his honor and the Empty Chair Memorial commemorates this event.) Should Tom not write a Port Guide for Juneau, Frommer's has a pretty good self-guided walking tour that you can obtain online.

sjohnso3 Posted January 29, 2018 #11 Share Posted January 29, 2018 The link to Part 1 didn't seem to work for me. It was a link to an email conversation? Could somebody repost? The link to the second part was a PDF and worked fine. Looking forward to looking it all over!
