Maybe we were just too tired at this stage of the cruise to be in the right mindset, but it fell flat for us. We all dressed up for it, as did most who attended. Our booth was in the back, with almost zero visibility to the performers and was stuffy and hot. My mother in law, The Judester was baby sitting, but out little Haze Beast has been attached to me this trip and we left to some pitiful cries of "Mommy, mommy, mommy" and I was worried she wasn't settling. All the drinks served were gin based. Since I don't drink liquor I quite honestly didn't mind when we received the message that our daughter hadn't stopped crying and she needed help. Getting back to the cabin, Judy and I took Hazel for a stroll in Central Park and then she was out. We got back to the cabin about the same time as my Hubs and just called it a night. Btw, I've basically photographed almost everything I've eaten and will follow up with those posts as well. So far we've visited Sabor, Coastal Kitchen, MDR, Izumi, 150 Central Park and Chops. I'm starving judgements until the end, but the absolute best thing that's hit my mouth yet is the sushi from Izumi. Instead we took Lady Stormageddon to the toddler splash area and her squeals of delight made it so worthwhile. WiFi was strong enough to work from the balcony. While it's not great to have to work while on vacation, this view is way better than my office. And in the background the divers have been practicing, so everyone is up here watching as well. We decided to venture down anyway and I was completely underwhelmed. For the first time this trip, I'm pretty deeply disappointed with the service I'm receiving. I've notified my genie and am waiting to see how all this resolves. I will say that room service sent up an apology bottle of wine, but let's face it, we have unlimited beverages anyway so all they really did was save themselves a trip up to deliver wine to an angry customer. We had dinner scheduled for Coastal Kitchen and I had called our genie in the afternoon to let her know we'd been having a problem. Of course, she was deeply apologetic but it was in no way, shape or form her fault. She did ask me to call her for all room service orders going forward, but I thought it silly to disturb her in her off hours for something as simple as room service. At dinner, I ordered my customary glass of sauvignon blanc that I ordered the last time I was there, as well as every other venue I've been at on this ship. The server then told me they don't serve it anymore. I honestly almost lost my **** at that point. I told her that I'd ordered it there before, as well as every other venue. She then asked me if I'd like to have her manager come explain it to me. Well, since her manager was the person who dropped off the offense of my lunch I told her he'd already been in my room once today, apologizing and that I'd prefer no drinks at this point. A few minutes later, the manager came over and asked me how many glasses of wine would I like, or maybe the bottle? So, that started off not so great and moved into a wonderful dinner. After that our server was amazing and she later asked me what made me so mad. I gave her the day's highlights and she was pretty horrified. During the meal, another suited manager came over to apologize and I accepted. He then gave me his card and told me to call him if I needed anything. Turns out it was the ship's overall restaurant manager and I appreciated the steps they took to escalate our problems. I still don't understand how our lunch took over 2 hours, 6 or 7 calls, was escorted down by a manager and was still not what I'd ordered. However, at this point there was no unringing the bell and the staff clearly cared about making me happy. Our server told me the change in wine service had something to do with Pinnacles, and that it was ultimately to improve service to the suite guests. Something here doesn't add up, because removing service of a simple wine served everywhere else on the ship doesn't "improve" their service to me. Particularly since it's what I drink. I do, however, suspect that it will be readily available to me in the Coastal Kitchen for these last few days. After dinner I was out with my cousin, her new husband and gang until 2am. We lived it up on Rising Tide and Blaze and had a great time. I came back to find that Coastal Kitchen and room service had delivered desserts, cheeses and a bottle of wine along with an apology. My husband was actually born in Congo and his sister still lives there, working for the United Nations. While in the beautiful Labadee my phone received a moment of WiFi and a headline pushed into my notifications. 14 UN peacekeepers were killed, 53 wounded in a target attack that was 3 hours of gunfire in the region where my sister in law lives and works. We returned to the ship to connect with her and I am relieved to report she is safe and sound. I don't understand how people can do this to each other, especially surrounded by this beauty. I personally would have preferred to just go to the restaurant but my toddler, The Boss, is much easier to handle at dinner if the other two meals come to us. The Hubs and I were scheduled for an 11:30 zip line but we were having a problem. Lady Stormageddon has decided at this point that she won't separate from us. Being in a new place I had concerns about us both leaving her at the same time. I went over to the zip line check in and explained my problem. They graciously rescheduled one of is to 1pm so we could alternate. We then walked on down to Barefoot beach and located Amanda. Beach attendants there we incredibly responsive and helpful, helping us with chairs and towels and drinks. A few minutes later it was time for me to return to the zip line and Hazel was quite happy to splash in the water with daddy. When I got down to the zip line I discovered the disappointing news that all zips were cancelled. The road up had been washed out and there was just no way to get up there. We'll be sailing the Anthem in May and we'll just have to try again then. I returned to Barefoot beach and we had a marvellous day. I will say that I HIGHLY recommend swim shoes in the water because there are definitely a number of rocks in the water. But the skies were blue, the sun was shining and the water was just the right temperature. Hazel is a water baby and loves boating, pools and beaches. Lunch was delicious and I was pleasantly surprised to see that they had passionfruit cider. Passionfruit is common in Congo, less common in the US and my husband's favorite. It was after lunch that I caught the sad headline and we went back to the ship around 2pm. Hazel and my husband both loved the singers and dancers just before the security checkpoint. Hazel stopped to dance. My husband felt that it reminded him of Congo, which would make sense that Haitian music and dance would have African influences. Of course, Congo at this point was heavily in our minds. I only have video of Hazel dancing and will have to upload separately. Once on board we were able to connect with his sister, who confirmed she was safe. She had been out in the field and not near that location. Thankfully, the power of technology allowed us all to put our minds at ease so quickly. We then relaxed and enjoyed the Aqua show. Our balcony has been such a fantastic view of all the shows. My daughter has been delighted by the diving and even enjoys the practice time. It's one of the highlights of our cruise. We had dinner at Chef's Table and apparently our party of 3 were the only ones booked. We had a private dinner! The Bride, aka The Hazel Whisperer, managed to coax my opinionated daughter away from us using some sort of magic vodoo I wish I could bottle and sell. So. Much. Food. I couldn't eat it all. But The Hubs manned up and got it all down. Then of was off to my cousin's cocktail party and Ugly Christmas Sweater was her theme. About an hour in Hazel was D-O-N-E and honestly so was I.
