Lovecruisestoo Posted December 22, 2017 #26 Share Posted December 22, 2017 I don't think the Nieuw Amsterdam is getting the Dutch Cafe. It is in the Konningsdam and Nieuw Statendam. However, the Neptune Suites will be upgraded with new furniture, carpeting and a new bathroom. The other changes people mentioned are included as well. pauly Posted December 30, 2017 #29 Share Posted December 30, 2017 (edited) Just got off today. Here is what is new: Billboard has been added directly across from the casino. Northern Lights is wholly transformed into a Gallery bar, which is a combo lounge/bar, etc. with lots of art to view. Explorations Cafe is gone. Crows nest is gone. It is now Explorations Central with large table-sized interactive displays. It is also the explorations office and desk. There are lots of tables and chairs to sit/read/play. It takes up the space of the old exploration cafe. The cafe/bar is in the old crow's nest, still serving coffee drinks and alcohol, but no finger sandwiches, cookies, etc. All new carpet and furniture in public areas. Brand new sofa bed in the cabin. The casino is smoke-free. Paul Edited December 30, 2017 by pauly

HELENPSL Posted December 31, 2017 #32 Share Posted December 31, 2017 The casino is "Smoke Free"????????????????? on all nights? If so, this would be good news for us. They did the same thing on the Zuiderdam. Since the 2 piano players are directly across from the casino the smoke bothers them when they sing so the casino on the Zuiderdam is smoke free. On the K-Dam the piano players are one deck below and there is smoking in the casino. Helen

I am happy to learn that the sofas have been replaced and that the casino is smoke free. I’m not a gambler but the smoke always pollutes the areas near the casino. Also are the flat screen TVs mounted on the wall? Thank you.

And I still doubt that all cabins were refurbished- that would be a massive project, and given what was already planned, would require much more time and/or manpower. But I will let a recent sailer confirm this.
Italy52 Posted December 31, 2017 #39 Share Posted December 31, 2017 Thanks for the replies regarding the casino being non-smoking. We often sail Celebrity because of the non-smoking issue --- Now, we will have more choices with HAL.

pauly Posted December 31, 2017 #44 Share Posted December 31, 2017 Also wondering, is the Screening Room gone? It still shows on the deck plans on HAL website. The screening room is still there with the big plush leather chairs. I am not sure if they are going to change that. It is not called the screening room either and when they had movies, they were in the big theater.

The TV's are the same, but mounted on the wall and not movable/tilting. The beds are still dreadful though.

Beds in terms of comfort are subjective I suppose - we have always found the beds to be fantastic (4 cruises on Noordam/Eurodam). Are you referring to the sofa bed or main beds? Are you referring to the sofa bed or main beds? We’re the carpets new in regular veranda cabin? I sure hope so. As far as beds go IMHO HAL’S “Signature of Excellence” brought very comfortable beds to the Vista and Signature class ships. I thought they were more comfortable than those on Celebrity, Royal, and no doubt Princess(worst beds at sea).

Are you referring to the sofa bed or main beds? Agree with the subjectiveness of beds... like food. Our beds on the last cruise on NA before refurb were the most comfortable we've slept on in a long time.
