sanmarcosman Posted December 21, 2017 #26 Share Posted December 21, 2017 I'm sorry you were all so sick. I always bring sanitizing hand wipes and use them all the time throughout the cruise. It does help, especially when you're not near a sanitation station, I also bring Clorox wipes for the room and I wipe everything down the minute I get in there....light switches, remote, all handles, bathroom counter, doorknobs, etc. If your cabin has a vinyl covered couch it's a good idea to wipe that down well with sanitizing wipes. I don't want to imagine what one of those would look like under a blacklight bacteria wand.

travelmomof2 Posted December 21, 2017 #28 Share Posted December 21, 2017 Hmmm we cruise this in just 4 days. We have our own sanitizer and wipes and bringing a mini pharmacy. I wonder about GC though...this is our first cruise and my husband and son booked the parasail...he wanted the first one available so we could have the rest of the day in port... but I did not know about the tender. If they have it booked thru the ship do they automatically get an early tender? And do we as we'd like to go with them (but did not buy the exclusion)? My husband did call and talk to a local parasail and they said they have had high winds the last few weeks and have only done and average of 2 trips a week. Thanks

The high winds can affect tendering and can even cause a cancelling of a port (especially this time of year). That said, relax and enjoy your cruise. Angua Posted December 21, 2017 #30 Share Posted December 21, 2017 Just so everyone knows, the alcohol based hand sanitizers are not particularly effective against norovirus, based on the kind of virus it is. Hand washing with soap as frequently as possible is a much better option.
WiCruiseDreamer Posted December 21, 2017 #31 Share Posted December 21, 2017 Thanks for the report, seems like some other ships are having gastro problems too. Unfortunately it is that time of year. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Trivia Trickster Posted December 26, 2017 #33 Share Posted December 26, 2017 We were on that sailing. None of us got sick but I did find empty sanitizer dispensers on multiple locations in the lido (probably the most important ones to keep full!). I found the service level has plummeted since our last Carnival cruise in 2010 but my daughter really enjoy their camp program.
PAcruiser25 Posted December 26, 2017 #34 Share Posted December 26, 2017 Yes, I was just going to write that.Sorry to hear you were sick, though,OP. I wash my hands right before meals and don't touch anything I am eating if I got it from a lido buffet: just use the silverware considering all of the people who touch the utensils. Excellent advice. If you get sick most likely you put the noro in your nose or mouth. So best prevention is to wash your hands alot, don't eat with your fingers, and never touch your face. Sorry to the original poster that several things went wrong, hopefully next trip is much better.
firefly333 Posted December 26, 2017 #36 Share Posted December 26, 2017 As far saying everyone needs to be honest on the health form, you and i both know if you dont have insurance, you arent going to cancel and lose all your money. I read a thread once, and i dont remember one person saying they would cancel, they would still go on the cruise and as you put it, lie on the form. Maybe take a poll and see if people have changed, on that thread, everyone agreed even if they were sick, they would still go on the cruise. I went the week following you, and it was in the 40s in miami, so you know it was cold the whole way down on our western cruise. cozumel they cancelled all water excursions, choppy, but the boat from chicken itza broke down and had to be rescued, so we didnt leave port until 8 pm. Belize, I was on one of the first tenders, priority, and it was 68 and people who prepaid for water excursions were not thrilled with being in the water. Wasnt a good day for tubing in the caves, and windy still. i got chilled. roatan nicer, but overcast and it started to rain by noon, so not a great day for a private beach day. one of the tenders to belize right after me broke down. I saw a few maintenance issue of bulbs and trim missing that surprised me. but my cabin steward was wonderful, even doing my room sometimes twice a day. above and beyond keeping my room clean. Dont count on people cancelling and losing their cruise money. no insurance, they arent going to cancel and lose their money ... just my opinion. coldest cruise Ive ever been on. lol well at least the a/c wasnt a issue, never needed it. oh and it stormed bad enough the last day going back, i was a little seasick myself. for myself, the cruise reminded me why I hadnt cruised in a while and took some time off. Though it wasnt a bad cruise, just cold. movies under the stars, brrrrr. i had to go get my jacket and people wrapped up in the towels provided, but still a bit too cold to enjoy, one night it poured during movies under the stars, upside was it was always easy all week to get popcorn with less people up on lido. Don Kehote Posted December 26, 2017 #37 Share Posted December 26, 2017 What a wonderful and blessed life OP must have! I know that if *I* was as sick as I've ever been, I would not have been able to get out of bed and go on a shore excursion, let alone walk a few hundred feet to the casino to cash out, and also go to Pixels. Maybe my immune system isn't as strong, nor can I recover quickly anymore.
Rare Tapi Posted December 26, 2017 #38 Share Posted December 26, 2017 We also had to reposition to Spott’s Bay in Grand Cayman one time because of high winds and surf conditions. It’s indeed a cluster... when this happens because you’re in a remote location. The lines to get back on the ship were ridiculously long. Most water based excursions were canceled, including ours. Although we were glad that we had a few hours in Grand Cayman, it made me wonder if the better option would’ve been to cancel that stop altogether, but I know that a lot of passengers would’ve been angry if we’d taken that route. About the cleanliness, that’s become a pet peeve of mine ever since I got violently ill on a Holland America cruise a few years ago. And I don’t blame the cruise line. I blame other passengers that have horrible hygiene habits. For example, I saw a man walk right out of a stall in the bathroom outside the buffet after going #2, and he kept walking without washing his hands and proceed to stand in line at the buffet. Sadly, that’s something that we all deal whether on land or at sea and it doesn’t matter if it’s Carnival or a luxury cruise line. There aren’t enough hand washing stations or hand sanitizer bottles to force some of these passengers to have good hygiene. All we can do is to take the most precautions that we personally can to avoid falling victim to other passenger’s misdeeds. Micahs Grandad Posted December 26, 2017 #39 Share Posted December 26, 2017 With a ship wide illness surprised OP charged for seeing doctor? We have learned to use soap very very often. Some people who have not learned hygiene should not be allowed in public.
