iratherbesailing Posted December 21, 2017 #1 Share Posted December 21, 2017 Yes, Miami is our port for the day 9am - 7pm. January. What do you recommend?
Rare Keith1010 Posted December 21, 2017 #2 Share Posted December 21, 2017 You could consider going to South Beach. You could have a taxi or uber/lyft drop you off near the art deco hotels. From there you could take a nice walk with the beach on the right side. You could walk over to where there is shopping and restaurants and/or continue North to the boardwalk and just continue enjoying that area. We have done this from time to time and it is a nice way to spend the day. Keith
brunello22 Posted December 21, 2017 #3 Share Posted December 21, 2017 To get a really good sense of the greater Miami area, you could walk over the bridge to Bayside (or taxi / Uber) and pick up one of the HOHO buses (City Sightseeing or Big Bus). There are a couple of different routes that will take you to the different areas, including South Beach, where you can spend a good part of the day. Do not purchase the bus ticket through the cruise line, but rather purchase a ticket on the bus or online in advance for a discount.
Rare Host CJSKIDS Posted December 21, 2017 #4 Share Posted December 21, 2017 (edited) Are you a couple? Are there children? As Keith suggested, South Beach is great but young kids may not find it an enjoyable way to spend the day so it would be helpful to know about your traveling party. There are so many different things to do in Miami. From South Beach, to the HOHO buses as mentioned, to boat rides, beaches, shopping, museums, dining, etc. If you like art museums, the PAMM is right by the port and on the water. Great museum, beautiful view and the restaurant right on site is fantastic. The Frost Science Museum is right next door. South Beach is a close Uber ride. Bayside Market place is very close and there are speed boats and tours leaving right from there. Vizcaya is here in Brickell and a very nice way to spend a few hours. We have beautiful beaches. South Pointe Park is beautiful and you have the pier and the beach. (This is where you can see the cruise ships leave.) Joe's Stone Crab is very close to this and it's iconic and has wonderful Florida Stone Crabs. Brickell Citi Centre is a beautiful shopping center if shopping is your thing. From a new huge Italian Food Hall (the 10,000 sq foot one is now open and the 38,000 one will be open in the new year) to restaurants to fine shops to an amazing movie theater, it's a great place to spend the day if it's chilly or raining. Wynwood is a very eclectic area and always has special things like art walks going on during the weekends. Lots of graffiti art all around. Lots of great dining around as well as breweries. There are many food tours of the area. There are bike rentals, segway tours, boat tours etc. Edited December 21, 2017 by Host CJSKIDS
iratherbesailing Posted December 22, 2017 Author #5 Share Posted December 22, 2017 These are all great ideas for both sunshine and rain. Thank you very much. It doesn't sound like we need to book ahead as long as we have different plans for the weather. We are 7 adults.

Jnsplace1 Posted December 27, 2017 #9 Share Posted December 27, 2017 We're doing the Hop on Hop off bus. This will give us the option of having a lose schedule and also they have a cafe nearby that stores luggage cheaply.

iratherbesailing Posted January 1, 2018 Author #11 Share Posted January 1, 2018 Do you think the ocean water will be warm enough to swim in late January. How much are the chair rentals?
Wallykl Posted January 2, 2018 #12 Share Posted January 2, 2018 Depends where you're from. We're in N Minn and we can swim in most water and think it's warm. I was just there, thought the water was a tad cool. Air temp 79. I'd guess Jan--Feb waters might be percieved as cool by most. 2 loungers, 1 umbrella--$46 for the day. Bathroom 1 block away. Drinks available after 11AM. Beers were $3-5. Drinks were $8-10.
Rare Peachypooh Posted January 3, 2018 #13 Share Posted January 3, 2018 We are staying at the Marriott Biscayne Bay and it looks like it is a short walk to the Perez Art Museum but is it safe to walk there? It looks like there are sidewalks but is it too traffic-y or is the walk through a questionable area? thanks.
