ECCruise Posted February 14, 2018 #176 Share Posted February 14, 2018 They are not free! LOL. From someone who only books group prices on =X= w/ no perks...not even close to free. Sent from my SM-G930V using Forums mobile app
xbankguy Posted February 14, 2018 #177 Share Posted February 14, 2018 I don't see the attraction yet many do. I suppose the best thing about cruising is each to their own. Sent from my iPad using Forums

yvrdave Posted February 14, 2018 #179 Share Posted February 14, 2018 Just back from the Equinox and the best that I could find out re Hot Glass Show was that the area was being repainted and a sign that said they would be back. Someone also said it would be with a different vendor.
nanamobo Posted February 14, 2018 #180 Share Posted February 14, 2018 I totally agree about cruise lines and there bottom line. They are in the business of making money but if they continue to nickel and dime everyone they may soon be out of business!!!! Not surprised. LLP (Celebrity's CEO) is all about the bottom line....and turning another space into a profit center is all too typical. As a stockholder we applaud her efforts. As a frequent cruiser, we now favor other lines :(. For the first time in recent memory (probably the past 10 years) we have no Celebrity cruises booked or planned. We continue to cruise over 70 days a year....but there are just too many other better options. We will likely book future cruises on Celebrity...but it might be far in the future and only after their are some favorable changes...rather than constant cut-backs and new attempts at nickel and dimeing. Pickels Posted February 14, 2018 #181 Share Posted February 14, 2018 Hot Glass Show? In a word: boring! IMHO--glad it's gone, sat in on one show, walked out after a couple of minutes.

They are in the business of making money but if they continue to nickel and dime everyone they may soon be out of business!!!! Actually the opposite appears to be true. They are reporting record profits and margins as well a historically high future bookings. This is not limited to Royal Caribbean and Celebrity.New cruisers never experienced "the good old days" . leisuretraveler223 Posted February 14, 2018 #183 Share Posted February 14, 2018 No great loss to me. Frankly the entire lawn club needs to be rethought. It's a real waste of space. Maybe they could do an apmed up version of cabanas for rent. I would gladly pay a premium for a little more comfortable and spacious seating with premium service. Cruise a holic Posted February 14, 2018 #184 Share Posted February 14, 2018 Cruise prices are at all time highs. Try to book the edge. I cannot believe the pricing and yet the ships are filling up quickly
Orator Posted February 14, 2018 #185 Share Posted February 14, 2018 I remember a time when you boarded a Celebrity ship you would be escorted to your cabin. When that ended there were negative comments on Cruise Critic. Some of the complaints on this thread mirror the complaints offered then. As memory of the Hot Glass Show fades so will the comments about its demise and cruising will go on.

Yes the "good old days" are long gone. Pretty soon the MDR will be gone and then everyone will have to pay to eat. There was a time the food in the MDR was excellent. Now you need specialty restaurants to have the "excellent" food we had in the MDR!!!! That's why there profits are high.

They are in the business of making money but if they continue to nickel and dime everyone they may soon be out of business!!!! The "nickel and dime" approach seems to be the norm on most of the major lines. It was so refreshing to cruise with Viking Ocean this past January. Yes, I paid a higher price and I also went solo, which of course made the price even higher, but it was worth it. First, I only had to pay $145 round trip from Columbus to San Juan. ALL cabins are balcony. Beer and wine at lunch and dinner, no charge. Shore excursions are included unless you want to sign up for optional ones. No photographers and no hawking of jewelry/tee shirts and other junk onboard. Free WiFi and usage of PC's. Free self usage of washers/dryers, laundry detergent and irons onboard. Free soda and snacks in room refrigerators. Free specialty restaurants. One short CD announcement a day with NO sales pitch for anything. Add to this NO problems with chair hogs, outstanding food and service. It added up to one great experience and showed me why this cruise line is so favored by many. It's about choice and you saw value in the product as do many loyal cruisers. There is another thread going now where the OP gives an opposite view of the Viking experience. Different folks, different perspectives. Edited February 14, 2018 by Orator

C Cruise Dude Posted February 14, 2018 #190 Share Posted February 14, 2018 We’re lucky to have caught the last show, as this was our first cruise on a ship with the glass show (previously on Reflection and Summit twice each). Me too. Very sad! I really enjoyed the show.

AtlantaCruiser72 Posted February 14, 2018 #192 Share Posted February 14, 2018 If the rumors of a new glass show/vendor are true as reported here, then I think this may be a "win-win"...... It sounds as if there will still be free demonstrations i.e. what Corning offered, but also an expansion into potential group/private glassblowing classes (for a fee), and a potential "glass shop" selling pieces made onboard. Yes there is a revenue benefit to the cruise line, but if they still offer free demonstration sessions, or the ability to observe the group/private sessions for free, I can't see where anyone loses? It will be interesting to see how this plays out in the next few months.

Tennant Posted February 15, 2018 #195 Share Posted February 15, 2018 Wish we knew when the new group would be starting. It’s a waste to have an unused space and a disservice to passengers who are getting the unused venue as part of their cruise. We love the hot glass show!! Would prefer the non-profit of Corning but hope it stays around in some capacity Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Rod&Deb Posted February 16, 2018 #196 Share Posted February 16, 2018 I emailed them to ask about Soltice for our Oct cruise and to find out if it isn't on our cruise what will be taking its place though as usual no answer LOL
Pacificdaze Posted February 16, 2018 #197 Share Posted February 16, 2018 Another thread gave the name "Hollywood Hot Glass" as the replacement company, and there was a photo of Christmas tree glass baubles which cruisers will be able to make for a price...quite expensive as I remember. I hope this info helps.
