Rare Lady Arwen Posted February 5, 2018 #1 Share Posted February 5, 2018 We've sailed with HAL numerous times, most recently being Koningsdam, which we loved. We decided to try the small ship experience with Prinsendam and have booked a cruise for 2019. Is the food and service comparable to the other HAL ships? Are the menus, in fact, the same across the fleet? Is the MDR a more formal, traditional dining experience, or pretty much the same as we've had on the other ships (my DH wants to know if he needs his Tux or just his suit and sports jacket)? How is the entertainment in the evenings? Thank you so much for your advice! Ingrid
catl331 Posted February 5, 2018 #2 Share Posted February 5, 2018 Much to my disappointment, we thought everything was pretty much the same as our Ryndam and Maasdam cruises. Fewer people of course. Noisier MDR. We were on a segment of a Grand Med, so there was no Open dining option. No need for a suit. DH wore a sport coat on Gala nights. OlsSalt Posted February 5, 2018 #3 Share Posted February 5, 2018 Agree, we found the food to be no different on the Prinsendam. Dining room felt more formal or else when we cruised in 2013 most of the passengers still did dress up more, due the nature of this being a more boutique ship. The grand Neptune Suites is what set this ship apart for us, as well as it size and flexibiliy for itinerary changes when necessary, or available. We did the Mediterranean-Black Sea cruise - all sorts of interesting ports where we could dock right in town.
