They are different... we did a comparison some years ago, between Princess and Celebrity... did 2 - 7 day cruises back to back one on the Ruby and one on Eclipse.    On this trip went to the Crown Grill on Princess and  did Blue on Celebrity...at that time comparing the two ships, Princess still came out ahead for us.     We tired of Celebrity over the years, did the Equinox, Eclipse, Silhoutte.. missed no main deck, found entertainment hit and miss, no real library, prefer Princess mini suite cabins with bath tubs and larger balconies on Grand class to Celebrity... but that is just us.    We kept trying Celebrity because originally we liked the older Celebrity ships... but not the newer style, feel the same about Princess royal class... we will pass.

In the last few years, I've done four cruises on Princess Grand class and two on Celebrity Millennium class. I love these older ships but they are getting long in the tooth. I found the Celebrity Edge Infinite Veranda concept unappealing and the tiny balconies on the Princess Royal class ships are a deal breaker. I'm on the Sky for a 3-day in a suite with a balcony that's larger than the standard Royal class 36 sq. ft. This short sampler cruise may send me scurrying back to the older ships.

We tried out the Edge Infinite Veranda and really disliked it so we're going for the traditional balcony (Sunset Veranda ) on the Apex preview next year.

One advantage Sky has over Regal and Royal are those larger balconies on Dolphin deck forward and aft (i.e. much like the Grand class) so we will be trying for one of those for Enchanted Princess. For the Sky Med Inaugural, we have treated ourselves to a suite too.

I think it is partly true and it scares me. It seems to me the "new cruiser" would rather be car racing on the Bliss than looking at the beauty of the glaciers, fjords, whales, etc as they glide by. They have to be constantly entertained and by ever new things because they bore quickly.

Last I heard, two of the biggest age groups: Baby Boomers (55-75 year olds) and Gen Xers (40-54 year olds) are not going to stop aging today (no jokes, please).  So, in my opinion, the collective 76 Mil + 82 Mil people in those two age brackets will fill all of the Princess Ships nicely for many years to come.  A flaw in the above thinking is that we don’t all change a bit as we age and Princess is picking some of the trends created by the younger of those aging and keeping other tried and true things that make Princess the choice of older cruisers.  Funny, there will always be lots of people in the 50 to 80 age brackets.  

 

Also, very rarely am I in an empty casino on Princess.  Old money still spends in Casinos.

 

We love all the different Princess Ships, but really love the Royal Class (9 Cruises on the Royal and Regal) and 4 scheduled on the either the Sky and Enchanted.

 

This is just my opinion.  In case you wonder, I am on the border of the above age groups.

First of all the younger folks 20's - 30 's are not sailing on Princess because Princess does not have the extra attractions as Carnival, RC & NCL; meaning race track, water rides, skyline etc. The 40's age group sails with Carnival because they are cheaper and have more less than 5 day cruising and after hour dancing.

50's age group like RC for the large theme ships and after hours dancing and NCL for the over abundance of extra dining options you pay for and their White Night theme party.

I sail on Princess for the less children being on board, High Tea is free , passengers have social class and very friendly to see everyone around them have a great time. No nickle and diming the passengers, not using the intercom to sale and talk in different languages ever 30 minutes like MSC cruises, the food and customer service are of high quality than Carnival. Maintaining my Princess Club points to reach Elite status.

That's too bad!  Those were nice areas to go out on and just enjoy the view either in port or while at sea, wind permitting, of course.  I guess now one will have to eat dinner to enjoy that same view.

We don’t follow your age descriptions at all! We much prefer Princess and Royal Caribbean to Carnival.  Our 7 year old prefers Princess to other lines. We almost never sail less than 7 nights.

I don't take children on cruises at all and I don't see that many on Princess ships I have sailed on; Grand and Emerald Princess. My children are grown and I am a very Happy Camper. I sail only on 10 days and up because I do not want to see children running around a ship unsupervised and do not know how to behave at a buffet dining. I am very happy that Princess will not offer children sail for free anymore.

They can take away a section if they like, but the food quality and customer service is a very high demand for me. I am looking forward to the new Broadway and European shows.

our exact same cabin as the one we have on 12/4 would still be $ 2 more than the 12/1 cruise.

 

Decreased price, but no 50% off 2nd passenger, and increased port taxes from when we booked

 

still in wait and see mode for 12/1 ... and expecting an upgrade, upsell, on the 12/4 ...

Hi Tony, that looks like a sunscreen over a hot tub. I know that many people don’t like hot tubs, but for those who do, it’s a great way to shield you from the sun. Royal Caribbean has them; they’re kind mesh, which lets the sun in, but provides protection as well.
