Has anybody ever really won in the Casino?

I have seen the crapless tables but never on a cruise ship.

I do visit casinos on an average of 1.5 times a week. I do keep records of each trip .

The casinos percentage is decreased if the odds are high. Usually play with 10-100 time odds.

Example : 5 on the  pass line and 20 time odds or $100 . You have invested $105 with a 50/50 chance of winning of 100 or loosing 105.

As I mentioned earlier , Don't get greedy . After a good run, either decrease your bets or leave the table with your winnings.

Also if I start loosing when I walk up to the table , my goal is to get back to break even and walk.

I do not count comps in my win / lose calculations but I do use the comp chips and they do make a difference.

So far this year Ive made $1250 with 123 visits to casinos. That's only $10 a trip but I get free cruises ,food hotels and entertainment.

I do it for the challenge more that trying to make money .

Agreed with all the above.

I usually play 5-10x odds (I play recreationally a few times a year) for the odds reduction. Agreed. Unfortunately most cruise ships seem to cap odds at a very low number, so that isn't really an option for the purposes of this thread, sadly. 🙂

Agreed re: challenge. Craps is a very fun, engaging game where you're actively strategizing rather than idly pulling a wheel. I love that aspect of the game.

My style is generally pass+odds with placing some numbers. Sometimes I'll favor Come + Odds if the table gets choppy. Depends on how I'm feeling that day. I generally stay out of the middle of the table unless I'm up good and want to loosen/liven the table up with some small 2way fun wagers (hard ways, etc).

Last 4 seven day cruises (playing 3:2 $25+ min blackjack tables for ~4 hours per day):

1. Down $200

2. Even

3. Down $1200

4. Up $3200

I bring cash onboard for my table play, and keep that entirely separate from my other money for the duration so I can track exactly what my win/loss is.

There seems to be a lot of slot players here who think there is some strategy to it.  There isn’t.  They aren’t “hot” or “cold.”  They aren’t “due to hit.”  The ones closer to the casino entrance aren’t “hotter” to attract attention.

You’re up against a random number generator and an algorithm that is designed to extract a given percentage of your betting from you.  It doesn’t matter what machine you play, when you play, where you sit or how the player before you did.  There is literally nothing you can do to influence your odds.  Humans are hugely susceptible to mistakenly finding patterns where there are none — and casinos love this.

There’s a reason casinos score slot play high when they calculate rewards.  It’s because slot play is absolutely murderous when it comes to house advantage and that’s where they really make their money.

Have fun, but don’t try to attribute any strategy to it.

Exactly. This is also why Craps and Roulette earn very few comps. The Pass line in craps, along with odd/even or red/black on the Roulette table have the lowest house advantage in the entire casino. That is how I decide whether or not a casino is a good one or not- any casino that lacks a craps or roulette table is likely stacking the odds on every game in there- including the slots.

Some cruise lines even make the craps table odds a bit worse by lowering the payouts.

Yep.  For me, as a blackjack-only player, it stuns me to see folks playing at the 6:5 tables.  That's literally asking to lose your money 4x as fast.

Roulette is not a very good game.

The house edge in roulette is 5% compared to under 0.5% in basic strategy blackjack or pass line With odds in craps.

I don't know on which line(s) you sail, but I'm on HAL.  So the following comments are unique to HAL:

The host/pit boss will usually open the 3:2 table if asked....and sometimes I have to beg.  Naturally the 3:2 table is a higher minimum ($15) than the 6:5 table but this serves another useful purpose:  As you must know, the majority of folks on a cruise have never really played blackjack.  So they are happy to stay on the lower-minimum ($6) 6:5 table.  This leaves the 3:2 table for us real blackjack players.

I don't know if the above applies to all of the lines under the CCL (Carnival) Ocean Players Club umbrella or not.  Would like to hear input from any blackjack players on those lines (Princess, Carnival, Seabourn, etc).

Correct, another one is walking away from the machine and have someone sit down and win big.  They then say they would have won that jackpot which is another myth. Another is not putting your affinity card in the machine because you think they won't let you win.

An interesting read is Simply Slots/Casino player magazine a few years back when they had an article on the 10 biggest slot machine Myths.  Everything said in mk=ultra's post is one of those myths.

I just completed a cruise on the Grand Princess and played slots only twice during the voyage, for about an hour each time, on nonsmoking nights. During my second night of playing, I won a $20,000 jackpot. Last year, I saw a lady -- on a different Princess ship -- hit a $20,000 jackpot. So even though it is rare, it is possible.

That’s incredible.  Lucky, lucky you.  Thanks for sharing.

Casino’s on ships follow the same rules as Nevada and there is a cruise association that they all belong to. If you played a few years ago there is no merit to the claim that you win more on the first night or any night. Machines are set at the factory at a win percentage requested by owner of the machine. It is the #1myth of slot machines that they can be changed by the casino. All this info is readily available on the internet. Just look up Random Number Generator.

Casino’s on ships absolutely do not follow the laws of the Nevada Gaming commission.

Slot machine payouts can be changed by changing the EPROM, and can be changed by the casino.  In Nevada the casino must complete paperwork and submit it to the state before doing this making frequent changes impractical.  No such requirement exists on cruise ships.

You are completely wrong about regulations.  Here's a link to the site from CLIA.

Yes, payouts can be change by changing the chip however in practicality in all local jurisdictions it is only done if there is a malfunction.   It is a very expensive proposition and therefore is not done on a daily or weekly basis as some people suggest.  It is not even done usually during the lifetime of a machine.

Last April we were on Anthem OTS 7 night cruise (which was a freebie from RCCL casino royale) and we won over $2500 plus another free cruise critic.  On this same cruise, someone hit one of the jackpots of $20,000 +/-     We took that free cruise in September to Bermuda on Grandeur OTS and the machines were not paying out.    I didn't see anyone in the casino happy with any large winnings.      I think we lost about $200 or $300 on that trip - but our loss was a lot less than what we would have paid for the 2 of us in a OV cabin.

We will be on a 21 day b2b cruise (7 nights of this was another free cruise from casino royale) in January and hopefully we will be lucky there.

I consider it entertainment and usually go on 4 or 5 cruises per year.   My DH spends more time in the casino than I do.   I play enough to make sure I retain my Prime status and keep getting those free cruise offers and enjoy the free alcohol too!

Have fun cruising!

Most ships have one time odds and a few have two times, even found one that pays the 3,4,5.

Just got off the Empress and was happy to see the casino is smoke free but only had 1 time odds unless your place bet was $25 or more. Then it was 2 times odds.

Usually the table only had myself and one other person playing .

So here is my strategy that worked.

Place 25 on pass and don't pass and cover the 12 with one dollar . then place true odds up to $50. Also placed the come and don't come with odds.

To do this you will need to buy in for $1K and you will have lots of money on the table at times but use your odds to your advantage and with any luck you will walk away with a few buck .But don't get greedy.

The one dollar covering the 12 only hit a few times but that's insurance.

I mostly play craps and definitely prefer Carnival for that. $5 min. and double odds and the ATS bonus bet, free drinks and fare comps.

last Royal I was on was $10 min. and single odds. No bonus. Any roll where both dice didn't hit back wall they'd scream no roll. It was the worst Casino experience ever on a ship. droped 2k and never got a free drink.

red/black and odd/even have a house edge over 5% on the ships roulette tables as they use double zero wheels.

even 6/5 blackjack has less then half the house advantage of roulette.

.

and actually the don't pass line with odds has a slightly lower house advantage then the pass line, I just don't enjoy playing the dark side.

Great article- thank you for sharing. I had read about various individual mythbusters before - but never  had found such a good summary.

Not for me .I pay slots and win 80 percent of the time on land and sea.

And casinos LOVE you.  You're the statistical outlier that gives everyone else hope they're going to have a run like yours.  Congrats.

No, I’ve lost every nickle I’ve gambled in every cruise I’ve been on.

im not bitter; I know it’s a losing proposition.

i get a kick out of it though; the video poker pay tables are the lowest possible settings allowed by the manufacturer (6/5 - full house/flush)...so I can only assume the slots are also set to the lowest possible payback allowed by the manufacturer (~80% RTP)

the table games are similar..6:5 BJ, lowest payouts on the Carnival Games; Double Odds at dice.

Strangely enough, on my most recent Royal Princess Cruise, they had two Video BJ games..that were $3 minimum-$200 maximum, and they paid 3:2 BJ, and double any two cards, etc..this game is by FAR the best game I’ve ever seen in a cruise ship..I played it exclusively.
