Diving or snorkeling or both in GC?

Hi! We have a group of 6 certified divers heading out on the Miracle on Jan. 29th. Ports are GC, Coz., Belize, Costa Maya. We would like to get suggestions for the best ports to dive and where we should just plan to snorkel or do other excursions, like seeing ruins. Is it possible to dive anywhere around Stingray City in GC? If not, is there enough time to do a 2-tank dive and then go back to see the rays? Is there a place to store our personal dive gear between diving and snorkeling? Thanks for any help, Mel

In Cayman:

For a group of 6, inquire with a small operator such as Neptune Divers, Ambassador Divers, or Off the Wall about chartering their boat. If they can accomodate you, you can probably set your own schedule, weather permitting. A dive on Cayman's famous North Wall, followed by a Stingray dive sounds like the combo you're looking for.

Keep in mind that sometimes weather conditions will not permit a North Wall dive due to high seas and winds. This is more common in the winter months.

Drew's advice is right on the money. A north wall dive followed by SRC would be my first choice. With a group of 6, chartering a boat makes the most sense as you will be able to set the schedule and pick the dive sites. You'd probably be able to snorkel during the surface interval.

I've gone out with http://www.neptunesdivers.com and recommend them. They only take 8 people, so you'd better check with them right away or they might already have some divers booked, leaving too little space for your whole group.

We are visiting the same islands as teach4, but are not certified. We are only going to be on Grand Cayman from 9:30-5:30. Diver's Down said we won't have enough time for a resort course and sting ray city dive any suggestions? Will we be disappointed in snorkeling sting ray city? We have heard we just can't miss sting ray city. 24 days and counting until our first cruise Explorer of the Seas.

I don't think you will be disappointed with just snorkeling SRC, as long as you don't go with the ship's excursion (unless you like large groups of people). Other than the stingrays, SRC isn't a great dive anyway. Definitely not the best way to spend you time on your first time really living underwater.

You can do a discover scuba dive at another island.
