Tiger0613 Posted March 7, 2018 #3 Share Posted March 7, 2018 My mom and I took Greyhound from Baton Rouge to Orlando and then a shuttle to Port Canaveral for a 4 day cruise.

Homosassa Posted March 7, 2018 #5 Share Posted March 7, 2018 Would you drive 7 1/2 hours for a three day weekend? If the answer is yes, you have your answer.
Thad409 Posted March 7, 2018 #6 Share Posted March 7, 2018 We're driving 900 miles and 14 hours from far west Texas to New Orleans
Rare sparks1093 Posted March 7, 2018 #7 Share Posted March 7, 2018 When we first started cruising we drove from Vermont to Miami, 28 hours. Flying was too cost prohibitive. Now that we don't have to worry about kids we could fly but not sure I'd do that for anything less than a 7 day (unless the short cruise was in addition to another reason for flying, like going to Universal or Disney for a few days). grandmarnnurse Posted March 7, 2018 #8 Share Posted March 7, 2018 I would never even choose a 3-4 day cruise! Too short!! Not enough time onboard to warrant the cost of travel there and back. With that said, if you lived right near any port, then go for it, but I would have to drive at least 6 hours for the nearest ports (NYC and Boston), and that’s too far to me unless I planned being in port city for a vacation also. I guess if I lived in a port city I would do short cruises, but that’s the only time. Sent from my iPad using Forums
Joebucks Posted March 7, 2018 #9 Share Posted March 7, 2018 Well, I drove about 12 hours each way for a 4 day vacation around Christmas, so yea, I'd rather do 7 1/2. There are cheap flights that can be had too. Especially on a 3-4 day cruise, you might be able to combine luggage and pay only 1 baggage fee. watermelonqueen99 Posted March 7, 2018 #10 Share Posted March 7, 2018 Have you cruised before? Honestly, anything less than a 7 day is just not long enough. We did one 5 day and it felt like it was over before it began. You just don't get the full experience on the shorter cruises. And to me certainly not worth that long in the car. Djptcp Posted March 7, 2018 #12 Share Posted March 7, 2018 We live 45 minutes from the Port of Tampa and 1.5 hours from Port Canaveral and have taken numerous 4-5 day cruises from these ports (also 7 day cruises). Wouldn't drive any longer for short cruises. We drive to Port Everglades for 10-day cruises and it takes 3.5 hours.
firsttimecruiser9876 Posted March 7, 2018 Author #13 Share Posted March 7, 2018 Yes I’ve done a 3 nt a long time ago, and more recently a 4 nt and a 7 nt. These circumstances are a bit different. Now we have a 2 year old, and just looking to get our first vacation without child. Also, have to work traveling in to drop off at grandparents. Things get complicated after kid! Micahs Grandad Posted March 7, 2018 #14 Share Posted March 7, 2018 Our first two cruises we drove about 900 miles for 4 day ones. Since than we do not do anything less than 7/8 and lately that is even too short.
cruzeluver Posted March 7, 2018 #15 Share Posted March 7, 2018 I won't even head to the port 20 minutes from my house for anything less than 5 days. Even 5 day cruises are too short for us but we did do a 5 day from port of Charleston as we are in the area and the dates were perfect. If we have to head down to Florida where the drive is between 6-10 hours depending on the port, it has to be at least seven nights.
arpie05 Posted March 7, 2018 #16 Share Posted March 7, 2018 three day cruises are really short. Do you have the time to do b2b? and do the 3&4? We loved doing a 5 & 4 because on first cruise we did all the stuff we wanted to do and then if we missed anything we could do 2nd cruise or just chill. nutterbutter818 Posted March 7, 2018 #17 Share Posted March 7, 2018 I had a girls' trip in which we flew from Texas to MIA and did a quick cruise to Bahamas. We added a few days before the cruise and rented a house boat in Ft. Lauderdale but I would have done the trip even without that. It was a great week! DaKa2002 Posted March 7, 2018 #19 Share Posted March 7, 2018 We drive 1250 miles one way for 4 day cruises. We rest up before and after by staying with relatives or friends that live within an hour of the port. Have to admit - that is never long enough... bigwally Posted March 7, 2018 #20 Share Posted March 7, 2018 A bargain 3-4 day cruise? I'd consider driving (or taking the train) down to the San Diego cruise terminal (95 miles). For not such a great deal, but I really needed a break, I'd only drive down to San Pedro/Long Beach (25-30 miles). Otherwise, like another poster said, a 3-4 day cruise really isn't long enough for me these days.
taglovestocruise Posted March 7, 2018 #21 Share Posted March 7, 2018 We are getting off the Symphony TA and then getting back on the Mariner 3 night Bahamas cruise. About a quarter of a mile in a rcl shuttle, That is it, a quarter of a mile.
LuCruise Posted March 7, 2018 #22 Share Posted March 7, 2018 Cruise is 4 days. We're looking at driving 4hrs (plus border cross time) to an airport in order to fly for cheaper to FLL.
navybankerteacher Posted March 7, 2018 #23 Share Posted March 7, 2018 45 minutes at the most. That's about my limit. I have only taken one cruise of less than a week: a four day Carnival from New York to Canada. My daughter drove me to Stamford (1O minutes) for the train to New York (45 minutes) and I took a taxi to the terminal (15 minutes). Not only is the cruise too short to be worth the travel time, the odds are that you will be with a couple of thousand people who makes that sort of mistake -a new use for the title: "Ship of Fools". NMLady Posted March 8, 2018 #25 Share Posted March 8, 2018 How far is too far for a short cruise???? We won't make flights that require a connecting flight for that short a cruise. Flight would have to be only 2 hours. Probably wouldn't drive more than 6 hours for a 4 day cruise
