Travel Insurance and Medicare

You can SUBMIT any bills to Medicare, but you will need to PAY the bill before you submit claims....usually BEFORE treatment in most countries!   Keep receipts, and submit them to Medicare and your supplemental policy when you return home.  They will pay some of it.

That's why having MEDICAL coverage in a travel plan is important, if you can't pay the "out of pocket" expenses without pain to your pocket!

I am covered for medical expenses right now, but not med evac.

I found that if I insure for a trip cost of $0, I can get coverage for everything else for $32 per trip.  If I cover only $500 of the trip cost, that goes up to $35.  Over $500, it goes up to $53.

So I cover for a minimal amount, and self insure for the rest.

For a cruise or air, I have already paid the fare.  If I don't go, I will be unhappy, but it will not be a financial hardship.

10s or 100s of thousands for medical and med evac would be a BIG problem.
