Static events Posted March 19, 2018 #1 Share Posted March 19, 2018 It bugs me that celebrity and other cruise lines still have game arcades on their ships... They are really outdated now and I’m not sure if they make much revenue these days. Surely they can use the space for something better?
Bo1953 Posted March 19, 2018 #2 Share Posted March 19, 2018 Where have you seen arcades? I most certainly would have spent some time there, had I known about them... bon voyage
justcrusn Posted March 19, 2018 #3 Share Posted March 19, 2018 If i recall correctly, they’re at the front of the ship, upper decks. In a teen/kids area. Not used much on our cruises at least, but probably has a niche on some cruises with more kids/teens. Most kids nowadays though take their game system with them. Blockschip Posted March 19, 2018 #5 Share Posted March 19, 2018 We're traveling on the Equinox with our 14 and 16 year old, and I have to agree, I doubt they will use the arcade at all preferring play video games on the xbox or PS or whatever system they have in the lounge. KatWoman92 Posted March 19, 2018 #8 Share Posted March 19, 2018 (edited) Have to say that my 12 year old son loves an old school arcade. Pinball, foosball, video games, etc. He enjoyed the arcade as a special treat on our last cruise with RCCL. Rare mom says Posted March 19, 2018 #9 Share Posted March 19, 2018 I would hazard a guess that for most cruise lines if something doesn't provide a profit, they would get rid of it in favor of something that would. Since they haven't gotten rid of them, they must be getting used enough to satisfy TPTB.
Dunmore2 Posted March 19, 2018 #10 Share Posted March 19, 2018 We spent time playing games in the arcade on the Reflection. I’d prefer more pinball games to the shoot em up or car driving type games, but we had fun.
sun_lovin!1 Posted March 19, 2018 #11 Share Posted March 19, 2018 Love the arcade! I go on several cruises a year and I go to the arcade at least once. I'm 58 and still enjoy the arcade, especially the rubber duck machine! Sent from my LG-E980 using Forums mobile app

Dunmore2 Posted March 19, 2018 #13 Share Posted March 19, 2018 Like the putting green, pinball can be a challenge when the ship is rolling in a big swell! You’re right, but when the machine said “tilt”, it wouldn’t be my fault.

grandgeezer Posted March 19, 2018 #15 Share Posted March 19, 2018 OP, what do you suggest instead? How about another bar or specialty restaurant? You never can have too many of them.
CaribbeanBound Posted March 19, 2018 #16 Share Posted March 19, 2018 It's too small for a restaurant, though they might could add another passenger cabin in lieu of the arcade. I usually run across the arcade by accident while exploring the ship. There is usually a couple of kids in there which is sort of odd because we rarely see many kids on some Celebrity cruises. As I recall, most of the machines are like $1 or so per game (and they aren't generous). It's there because they want your kids to bug you for $10 to use it and for you to fork it over so the kids quit bothering you. (Though they'll be back in 10 minutes). Yeah, you can tell I'd rather see that room put to a different use.
megessey Posted March 19, 2018 #17 Share Posted March 19, 2018 Do they have air hockey? Or skee-ball?
sun_lovin!1 Posted March 19, 2018 #18 Share Posted March 19, 2018 Do they have air hockey? Or skee-ball?I've seen air hockey in all of the arcades on the ships I've been on! Can't remember any Skee Ball off hand. Sent from my LG-E980 using Forums mobile app
OCruisers Posted March 20, 2018 #19 Share Posted March 20, 2018 Probably for the same reason they still have Art Auctions on ships -- seems they make money.:rolleyes:
AtlantaCruiser72 Posted March 20, 2018 #20 Share Posted March 20, 2018 Well, at least on X the Arcades are tucked so far away as to be virtually invisible (unless one is going to the teens/kids clubs. Realistically the only other use for them would be additional sq footage for the kids/teens facilities, which aren't exactly bursting at the seams on most sailings. I'm sure they make enough $ annually to justify the cost of obtaining and maintaining equipment. Plus they do help keep the youg'uns occupied so, for the kid-haters out there (which I am not one of) they should be looked upon as a valuable amenity !!!!!! cruzeluver Posted March 20, 2018 #21 Share Posted March 20, 2018 We sail on multiple lines including Celebrity and all have arcades, so they must be generating profits. In fact we were just on the brand new MSC Seaside in January and the arcade is huge!
waterbug123 Posted March 20, 2018 #22 Share Posted March 20, 2018 It's too small for a restaurant, though they might could add another passenger cabin in lieu of the arcade. hmm...a cabin in the middle of the kid/teen zone? No thanks, lol. Not sure why the existence of the arcade is such an annoyance to the OP. You already have a cabin of your own, so who cares if they add 1 more, it's too small a space to be turned into much of a usable space for anything else, and even if it was? It would likely be an additional or enlarged kid/teen space, so again- no real use to the OP. Oh, and the arcades DO make money....I have some past account statements from cruises with my boys to prove it, LOL
deliver42 Posted March 20, 2018 #23 Share Posted March 20, 2018 Other than the initial investment, the arcade costs them nothing. Whatever they get from them is profit.I, too, wonder why the OP would be so upset with them.Sounds like the OP just wanted his ( hers) moment in the sun with this rant. Sam.Seattle Posted March 20, 2018 #25 Share Posted March 20, 2018 An arcade is a nice place for teens to meet that are not looking for the structure of the teen club.
