CruisingChick Posted March 20, 2018 #26 Share Posted March 20, 2018 I, too, wonder why the OP would be so upset with them. I agree. I don't understand why it "bugs" them so much. At least on the Celebrity ships we have sailed they are tucked away and not bothering anyone. I mean what does the OP suggest the kids to do in lieu of the arcade, run around the ship pressing elevator buttons and disturbing the guests. Can'tstopcruising Posted March 20, 2018 #28 Share Posted March 20, 2018 I am very surprised to learn here that the kids have to put money into the arcade games. That is a sure way to cause many arguments between kids and parents, not exactly vacation-mode.
deliver42 Posted March 20, 2018 #29 Share Posted March 20, 2018 Are you kidding? On all ships, and anywhere else, the arcades are extra. Parents and kids both know that.
Z'Loth Posted March 20, 2018 #30 Share Posted March 20, 2018 :rolleyes:I do suppose it's better than the kids staying in the cabin and playing on their tablets. :rolleyes: (and apologies for the excessive roll eyes smileys. AppyAmmer Posted March 20, 2018 #31 Share Posted March 20, 2018 I will be taking a handheld device that emulates retro arcade games on it, but I will certainly be paying a visit to the on board arcade at least once. I think they look so small that hardly any games are in them and if anything use up awkward spaces on a ship effectively.

johno1234 Posted March 20, 2018 #34 Share Posted March 20, 2018 It's too small for a restaurant, though they might could add another passenger cabin in lieu of the arcade. I usually run across the arcade by accident while exploring the ship. There is usually a couple of kids in there which is sort of odd because we rarely see many kids on some Celebrity cruises. As I recall, most of the machines are like $1 or so per game (and they aren't generous). It's there because they want your kids to bug you for $10 to use it and for you to fork it over so the kids quit bothering you. (Though they'll be back in 10 minutes). Yeah, you can tell I'd rather see that room put to a different use. The last ship arcade I was in was on Carnival and the machines only ran on the cabin swipe cards. Our kids' cards could only be used for cabin door and soda package so they had to come nag us to accompany them for a go in the arcade using our cards. Holy cow they could run up a big bill in no time if you let them! If your kids's cards were setup to allow spending they could get you into big trouble in the arcades. Easier to spend money there than in the casino. At least there I can make $50 bucks last a while on the blackjack table.
Talex831 Posted March 20, 2018 #35 Share Posted March 20, 2018 How about another bar or specialty restaurant? You never can have too many of them. Well, the arcades are not much bigger than a stateroom, so it would be awfully cozy in there![emoji23] My DS likes to visit the arcade every sailing. They’re not super busy, but there’s usually a few people there. Sent from my iPhone using Forums

That is a sure way to cause many arguments between kids and parents' date=' not exactly vacation-mode.[/quote'] We just took my Daughter's significant's other and his kids on their first cruise on Royal. We were able to purchase the kids cash cards that were for their use in the arcade. They had a BLAST! And, there were no family arguments. We found this to be a good teaching opportunity to learn the value of budgeting the card so it would last for many days.
rslrhu Posted March 21, 2018 #38 Share Posted March 21, 2018 On Eclipse last year the kids club had a couple of evening arcade sessions where most of the machines were free. Our son loved it.

Static events Posted March 21, 2018 Author #42 Share Posted March 21, 2018 Other than the initial investment, the arcade costs them nothing. Whatever they get from them is profit.I, too, wonder why the OP would be so upset with them.Sounds like the OP just wanted his ( hers) moment in the sun with this rant. It’s not a rant. I just think the space could be used for something more modern. I don’t know anyone that plays arcades these days. I’m 26 so it’s coming from a youngish persons perspective. TFLG Posted March 21, 2018 #44 Share Posted March 21, 2018 We are early 50s and often play a few games in the arcade. Mostly always air hockey. It's funny how some folks see an area and think it's useless because they don't use it or it's empty at that particular moment. I think the most useless space on the S-class is the freakin grass. They are obviously realizing this with the Porch and the new Alcoves. But the sunset bar area could use an expansion. There's just not enough seating space back there and they could use an area for the live entertainment instead of sqeezing them in at the side of the bar.
Boston Joe Posted March 21, 2018 #45 Share Posted March 21, 2018 It bugs me that celebrity and other cruise lines still have game arcades on their ships... They are really outdated now and I’m not sure if they make much revenue these days. Surely they can use the space for something better? What's it to you? Seriously, are you such a control freak that you have to share your desire to tell other people how to enjoy their cruise?Ships are big, if you don't like the arcade simply don't go to that section. An example, I don't like golf, I think it's a stupid game but I understand there are a lot of people that don't share my opinion, I simply don't go to the indoor golfing section of the ship or for that matter the mini golf section of the ship. I do enjoy mini golf or as it was called in my day Putt-putt. The motion of the ship makes it seem pointless to me. If you do find yourself in the arcade section don't go in to the arcade, don't even look that direction if it bothers you. Library's are another thing, to me a waste of space yet I recently read a thread of people who love them and even donate to them, good for them!! Born in '61 I grew up during the arcade era, I still love a good game of pinball with as many people I can get to join me. I also love to play old style stand up video games. Their are a few places in my area that have large arcades, most of the time they are very busy, weekends you can barely get in one. I'm aware arcades are fading into the memories of those who love them but I for one applaud cruise lines keeping the arcade tradition alive and target them for my vacations because they still have arcades in them. Original Poster perhaps you could target lines that don't cater to such a tradition. To me it seems that's what cruising is all about, traditions of era's past. RickinNYC Posted March 22, 2018 #48 Share Posted March 22, 2018 (edited) You don’t use the arcades, so it “bugs” you that they exist, and, in your opinion, the fact your 26, hence “young-ish”, you have more credibility. I don’t use the ladies’ rooms, so I guess that bugs me. I think the cruise lines should turn those into something more useful to me. And since I’m male-ish, my opinion is more important than yours. Got it. Sent from my iPhone using Forums Edited March 22, 2018 by RickinNYC
