carocox Posted March 28, 2018 #1 Share Posted March 28, 2018 My mother and I will be arriving at Cape Liberty on the Celebrity Summit on April 29th. We don't fly out until 730pm that evening (EWR). We are looking to spend the morning and and early afternoon seeing a bit of the city before we go home. Can someone suggest public transit options from the cruise terminal to downtown? I hope to use a luggage service like Freeyourarms to pick my luggage up for me at the ship and deliver it to the airport later in the day. I realize that our time to spend is limited but I was hoping to see some of central park and the the Met. My mother would like to walk down 5th Ave and see the shops. We are both good walkers and have good common sense. Sent from my SM-G930W8 using Forums mobile app
138east Posted March 28, 2018 #2 Share Posted March 28, 2018 You go to the taxi dispatcher and tell them you want to go to the light rail station. It should be about $5/pp. To go to the Met first, I would take the light rail to Exchange Place ($2.25/ pp - half price for seniors), transfer across the Plaza to PATH to World Trade Center for $2.75/pp. You walk east to the Fulton St subway station to find the number 4 or 5 uptown subway and walk the 5-6 blocks to the Metropolitan Museum. To get downtown to "5th Avenue" you take the bus from in front of the Museum down 5th Avenue to around 59th St and start walking. To get back to EWR you have to get yourselves to New York Penn Station and take NJ transit Northeast Corridor or North Jersey Coast train to Newark Airport for $13/pp, less for a senior. http://www.njtransit.com/pdf/rail/Rail_System_Map.pdf http://www.njtransit.com/pdf/LightRail/sf_lr_hblr_map.pdf http://web.mta.info/nyct/maps/subwaymap.pdf
carocox Posted March 29, 2018 Author #3 Share Posted March 29, 2018 Thank you very much, all of that seems like we could do it. I also want to take the subway as an 'experience' so am looking forward to it :) Sent from my SM-G930W8 using Forums mobile app

It could take an hour and a half. You should be on the train to EWR no later than 4:30.
