Train or taxi from Gdynia to Gdansk Old Town and Shipyards?

We're hoping to visit the European Solidarity Center in Gdansk and do Part 2 of the Rick Steves self-guided Old Town walk. Our ship (Oceania Marina) doesn't seem to offer a bus, so any personal experiences and info on getting from Gdynia to Gdansk would be appreciated. We have heard horror stories about Gdansk traffic so with a taxi are concerned about missing the ship even with a large time margin built in for error, but the train directions from the port to Gdansk seem daunting. We have an early departure from Gdynia--4:00 pm. Thanks for any info.
