A Diamond Lounge question

Recommended Posts

We are looking at a group cruise for 2019 or 2020 and while discussing the idea it turns out some in the group are Diamond members on RCI. One couple has a 4 year old daughter that has not been on a cruise ship, but the couple are Diamond members. They want to know if they can take their daughter to the DL. I thought I read somewhere that DL has become an "SL" and that Diamond members can use a lounge during the day time but for drinks they get 3 on their account. Really not sure. Let me know. This couple doesn't use CC so let me thank you in advance on their behalf for assistance.

Bob is unfortunately correct, and I wonder does he ever sleep? Why would you take a 4 YO to a bar. There is literally nothing there to entertain a 4 year old, and the food, would probably not appeal to them. I am ok with whatever, but why?

Is this all ships? I should specify we are looking at the larger ships; ones with a Royal Promenade and also Oasis class ships.

All ships that have a Diamond Lounge still allow Diamond members to access it 24 hours a day and enjoy free cocktails and hors d'oeuvres 3 1/2 hours a day. Children are permitted with their parents. In addition, each Diamond member has 3 vouchers each evening that can be used at (almost) any bar for the same types of drinks and same hours as the Diamond Lounge.

Some ships allow the vouchers to be used in the dining venues, but not all.

Yes, on all ships, except for Majesty and Empress which do not have Diamond Lounges.

They only serve cocktails 3 hours a day, and there isn't a bar in the DL's, they get drinks from a service bar or a bar cart setup. They do serve continental breakfast/snacks at other times as well. The food in the evening tends to be crudite, cheese/crackers, chicken wings, mini egg rolls, pigs in a blanket, etc. Nothing there seems overly ambitious for a kid. I mean, come on, the whole ship really is one bar after another if you want to split hairs, the DL can actually be a quiet respite during the day.

Anyways, OP, yes, your friends can access the lounge with their child if they would like.

Because they want their free drinks/snacks and have nowhere else to dump them during those hours.

Did not take long for the parent bashing to start. See you in the DL; we have a 3 year old in tow.

Does it depend on the concierge? Last time on oasis they didn’t seem to want kids in their during happy hour. I know because I asked day 1 since we had our toddler with us. The concierge knew us from the SL on a recent cruise. She loved our daughter but I kind of got the feeling she had a no child policy during free drinks hours. She said we could bring our daughter but we didn’t end up bringing her b/c we didn’t want to get special treatment just cause we knew her and I knew she was not allowing other kids in.

Exactly. What’s the difference. The whole ship is a bar/lounge. No biggie to me if they are in the DL and well parented (ie. well behaved). It starts at 5pm. It isn’t like you are taking a kid to a bar at midnight. Most

And we would say Hello and have a good evening in passing. No problem as long as they behave as well or better than the other Diamond members. Last time on Adventure one extended family of cruisers brought their 4 year old on formal night. [sarcasm]The little heathen insisted on walking around and having everyone look at her pretty dress. So out of control! [/sarcarsm]

Our experience has been that, depending on itinerary, the lounges could be opened from 4:30 until 8 or 5:00 until 8:30 which would amount to 3.5 hours.

WOW!!! Imagine a 4 year old showing off her pretty dress!!!! She was probably the "highlight" of the night. I would have no issue taking my 8year old in with me, but she would rather be in "Adventure Ocean"....

Maybe you’ve read too many fairy tales but kids aren’t meant to be locked up in keeps or sleep on a hearth in the cinders. We were all kids once and some are less well behaved than others. Nothing you can do about others kids and if showing off a dress is a crime your gonna have to lock up a lot of adult females too. I for one think a little girl going around showing off her dress would put a smile on almost everyone’s face other than the Scrooge. Let kids be kids. They don’t get to be that way for long and showing off a dress is a very cute kid thing.

The girl showing off her dress reminded me of something on our last cruise.

We were leaving our stateroom to go to dinner and a mother in the hall was asking her young daughter (my guess around 9 or 10) to please put on her jacket. The daughter's reply was "I will carry the jacket. If I wear it people will not be bale to appreciate my beautiful dress!" ;p

I have no issue with children in the DL or any place that Royal says they are permitted.
