Yes I did. No luck. I’m wondering if the problem is that I booked through a third party TA. I had contacted celebrity move up and asked for the opportunity to bid and they emailed the offers. I made my bids and received a confirmation email. But maybe I wasn’t actually eligible to bid in the first place? Just a guess. I wrote to celebrity move up but they haven’t responded. I booked with a company that does casino comps and discounts. (Not the celebrity casino club). I guess it’s not a TA, just a third party booking. I agree with your logic. Why allow me to bid just to later determine I’m not eligible? But I can’t think of any other explanation. Hopefully Celebrity Move Up will get back to me. We always book that way and have bid, changed bids and won move ups. If you were using a TA who made you unable to qualify for participating in the move up program(like a large big box store) you wouldn't have been able to bid in the first place and you'd have not received the move up email,.

We have two cruises presently booked (Florida in March and our swapped Southampton cruise in September next year). For both cruises we will be able to wait until nearer the time to make decisions. It was hard to cancel but we are very grateful that Celebrity makes moving cruises so easy. In the meantime we will try to make the most of local short breaks that fit in with our present difficulties. Needless to say we will continue to follow others on CC and enjoy some vicarious cruise time!

Lastdance Posted August 20, 2022 #687 Share Posted August 20, 2022 I have a question: There are over 60+ suites available on one of my cruises and it is 57 days away from sailing. Most are in the S1-S3 range. How are cabins awarded? High bid=better cabin as soon as the bid comes in, or doesn't matter about bid and S3's awarded before S2's and S2's before S1's. I am trying to decide what to bid, as I love my SV cabin, but do not want an S3. I am thinking that a higher bid may be awarded first and to a better cabin on a higher deck? What are your thoughts? There's always a risk of winding up in an S3 if they're open. Perhaps better, if S3 really wouldn't work for you, is skip the SS bid and go for one of the higher ones e.g. CS, and keep fingers crossed?

IMO nothing like a suite- while I book S1 or S2's, the suite deck, restaurant and other suite perks are well worth it. We have had Aft suites on the Solstice class ships and found them to be much too sunny and too much soot for our tastes- couldn't use the balcony at all. Never had an aft cabin on the Edge class ships. Also, not a fan of the infinite veranda staterooms. My thought is do not make a bid for any category that you would be dissatisfied with any cabin awarded. 1. You could pay the current upgrade cost and just book what you want. You would get the added benefit of the Indulge package, which you might not currently have with your SV booking. 2. As mentioned an undesirable cabin is less of a risk in the categories above the SS. Celebrity/third party has made it difficult to “game” the system. The terms are clearly defined. Good luck with whatever you decide.
letsgogogo Posted September 18, 2022 #695 Share Posted September 18, 2022 Question for those who know. I have a move a bed for aqua class, and I bet the maximum amount possible because only inside was available when I booked and we got it for a really low price. I’m wondering, do travelers in oceanview rooms and veranda rooms get preference over inside when bidding for aqua class? Or is the playing field level and it’s just a matter of who bids the highest? I did see that celebrity recently announced a multiplier based on captains club level, but it appears quite minimal. We are on Summit for October 3 and there is currently no aqua classrooms available. They have been sold out for months. Trying to gauge how certain an upgrade would be if I am bidding the highest possible, and whether lower bids from those already in say concierge class would be given preference. I do not know for certain, BUT... The entire purpose of the MoveUp thing is to allow Celebrity to maximize their profit from unsold cabins... Following normal logic, if there are two similar bids for an Aqua cbin, one from someone currently in an inside and the other from someone currently in a Concierge cabin, the cruise line would have to be absolutely crazy to accept the bid from the inside booking. If they accept the inside bid, they pocket the amount of the bid and get an unsellable inside cabin back, If they accept the bid from the Concierge bidder, they get the amount of the bid PLUS an open Concierge cabin--for which they can then accept a second bid from someone in a balcony cabin, pocket that cash and get an open balcony cabin--for which they can accept a bid from someone currently in an OV...and so on. When all is said and done, that approximately equal bid from the Concierge cruiser is worth three to four times as much as your bid.... I’m rolling on the hope that it’s unlikely someone would book a concierge cabin and then bid the max ($1750 pp for this sailing) for a category they could have booked in the first place for far less (assuming it was available.) My problem is that when I booked, only inside were left, and I got a great deal. So $3500 total to upgrade to aqua is probably not much different than had I been able to book aqua in the first place. I’m betting that someone who booked concierge is not willing to spend that to upgrade to aqua.

First, realize that they may never have an Aqua available...and if one comes open, they may likely sell it in the usual manner. That said, if you'r willing to spend whatever it takes to get that Aqua, your better path would be to keep monitoring the Celebrity Website...and, if you see one pop up, immediately contact Celebrity...or your TA...and have them move you the old-fashioned way. Volunteer to just pay the difference between what you booked the inside for and the going rate for the Aqua. Then you are not gambling on the "luck" of getting the MoveUp. Remember that it may not take matching your bid for the MoveUp computer to award that cabin to someone currently in a concierge or balcony. Someone could bid far less than that and Celebrity will still make more money--because they can resell (or accept a MoveUp bid) on the cabin they are giving up. (Moving to the few verandas that just opened up is more expensive now than my MoveUp max bid.)

Still no aqua open the “old fashioned” way so no luck there. I hadn’t really thought about this hierarchy. I will say this much. I have been watching the open inventory daily. About the only thing selling now are the inside cabins when they pop up from cancellations. All the other inventory is priced high and just sitting there. We are 1 week from sail away.
