LillCruiser Posted April 28, 2018 #1 Share Posted April 28, 2018 My sister raves about Tea Time on her past cruises. Does Royal have Tea Time? She makes it sound so wonderful with tea and scones and all the works.
gerif Posted April 28, 2018 #2 Share Posted April 28, 2018 No. They have snacks available in the WJ in late afternoon but no formal tea.

LillCruiser Posted April 28, 2018 Author #5 Share Posted April 28, 2018 Was your sister speaking of Princess, perhaps? I’ll have to ask her exactly what cruise line but I believe she has sailed with Princess in the past.
maryann2 Posted April 28, 2018 #6 Share Posted April 28, 2018 Carnival still has afternoon tea on sea days.
mom4mom Posted April 28, 2018 #7 Share Posted April 28, 2018 We were on Vision a couple of weeks ago and I saw Tea Time in the Cruise Compass but forgot about going. I usually love afternoon tea on Carnival.
gooners1968 Posted April 28, 2018 #8 Share Posted April 28, 2018 On Indy the last 2 years the Windjammer has served scones, jam and cream along with the normal snack type foods every afternoon. We often skipped lunch and had this instead....nice after a morning excursion!

We were on Princess in January and they did a nice afternoon tea. Even had music playing.
ONECRUISER Posted April 28, 2018 #10 Share Posted April 28, 2018 30 years ago was a regular thing on all Royal ships, not so much now unless in certain areas of the world...
adamrosie Posted April 28, 2018 #11 Share Posted April 28, 2018 No tea time. Would be nice but that would involve RCCL spending money and improving service. Unlikely to happen unless they charge $$$$$$$ Sent from my iPhone using Forums
Vlgg731 Posted October 1, 2018 #12 Share Posted October 1, 2018 HAL has High tea time on Sea Days and lighter tea on days in port.
Giantfan13 Posted October 3, 2018 #13 Share Posted October 3, 2018 My DW just loves those High Teas on sea days, but unfortunately RCCL, as well as many other cruise lines, did away with them. I know Carnival still has them, on all sea days, but you have to bring your own tea bags unless you want just plain Lipton tea. They charge $1.95 for any sort of different tea bags. Talk about giving with one hand and taking away with the other. Cheers Len
Artful Posted October 5, 2018 #14 Share Posted October 5, 2018 Oceania ships have high tea each day. A string quartet plays classical music; they serve finger sandwiches, scones, assorted pastries and, of course, tea.

That is similar to how Princess did it last January except I am not sure how many musicians.

Term originated with working class people who ate around 5pm or so...things like shepherd's pie, stews, casseroles, etc.. :)

Working class people had "high tea" at suppertime because they ate it as a meal at a high table. The aristocracy had "low tea", eaten off a low table mid-afternoon, more as a snack to hold you over until dinner, which was later in the evening. Here in the north of England, the evening meal is still called "tea".
