CruisingMacs Posted May 21, 2018 #1 Share Posted May 21, 2018 Had to cancel a cruise at the last minute - emergency surgery - and didn't have insurance. No grounds for refund or future cruise credit. However, if RCL is keeping our cruise fare shouldn't we get the C&A points for the cruise? After all, we did end up paying for it. Anyone have similar situation with RCL? Your results? Thanks. ATC cruiser Posted May 21, 2018 #5 Share Posted May 21, 2018 Doesn’t seem fair, but that’s the way it is.
taglovestocruise Posted May 21, 2018 #6 Share Posted May 21, 2018 Points are awarded for days sailed. If I had points for all the kids cabins I paid for I would be on my way to pinnacle.
voyager70 Posted May 21, 2018 #7 Share Posted May 21, 2018 Airlines are the same way. Even if you've paid for a ticket but don't fly you don't get the miles. Stinks but that's the rules.
Rare sparks1093 Posted May 21, 2018 #8 Share Posted May 21, 2018 This is the way it works on NCL and CCL also, and I presume the other lines.
Paulxyz2004 Posted May 21, 2018 #9 Share Posted May 21, 2018 No points as it´s a loyalty programm rewarding for cruise nights sailed and not a reward programm for dollars spent.

They are sympathetic at times when it comes to personal matters and might work with you to reschedule your cruise.
Sharon I Posted May 21, 2018 #12 Share Posted May 21, 2018 We had to cancel our 4/13/18 cruise on the Navigator we had insurance and got every penny back, but the insurance obviously. We got our port fees and taxes and our gratuities immediately from our TA and rec'd our checks from the insurance company in a week and a half. As for the C&A points earned on my Visa card I called the card company and when we booked our next cruise they give you a validation number for the points and the TA calls them and has them applied to you new reservation number. The only thing we lost was the complimentary points they give you when you sign up for the cruise, but you get new points when you book your new cruise. We had already made it to Miami when we had to go to the hospital so we had to pay for three days at a hotel and didn't insure our plane tickets so we had to purchase new tickets to get home and called the airline and they gave us a voucher number to use on our next flight for only half the price we paid but that was better than a total loss. Good luck with your points
Paulxyz2004 Posted May 21, 2018 #13 Share Posted May 21, 2018 C&A points and Visa points are entirely differnt things. You do not earan any C&A points on spendings with a Credit card.

CruisingMacs Posted May 21, 2018 Author #16 Share Posted May 21, 2018 Thanks everyone for the responses. And yes, I tried calling RCCL directly (as well as contacting C&A). Just wanted to see if our experience was typical.
