Roll Call -- November 3- 2013 - "what a Breeze"---PART 2

Recommended Posts

Hi all!

pirate ~ glad to hear you had a nice 4th of July. Yes, those horse flies can be big, do you get deer flies too?

Betty ~ your tour sounds really great! I take it's a bus tour? How many people are on the tour? Is Irish amethyst purple like the ones we have here?
How's Tommy making out without you? Does he cook or do you leave food for him?

Well, it's cooled down a little for which I'm grateful. Have the windows open today instead of running the a/c.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

This morning we went to the Cliffs of Moher. Very pretty. Then we had lunch in a little restaurant not far from there.

Then on our way to the ferry over the Shannon River we had a bit of delay and excitement when the awning on a camper clipped the mirror on the bus breaking it and the bus windshield got all cracked. So that had to be sorted out. So for now the driver taped the mirror back up. I don't know if they will bring a different bus for us or what.

Tonight we went for a dinner with some music and dancing. It was okay, but over priced I think.

Tomorrow is supposed to be very warm and we will be exploring the Ring of Kerry.

Tonight we're in Killarney and our hotel is right downtown. This seems like a fun town, lots of shopping and pubs.

Yes, it's a bus tour. We have 46 or 47 people. It's a pretty enjoyable way to tour and see places that a cruise couldn't reach I guess. The great thing about cruising is unpacking once. We spend 2 nights in three different hotels and one night in four different hotels. So most mornings you have to have your bag out in the hall at 7:30AM and then on the bus at 8:30AM.

Tommy seems to be doing okay. He can feed himself so I don't have to leave him anything.

The amethyst looks like any other, it's just from here.

Now I have two days to review.

Yesterday we did the Ring of Kerry, which is just a drive around the mountains near Killarney. Nice views but nothing else. Then we stopped and toured a big manor home and gardens, that was cool except we couldn't take pictures inside. We had buffet dinner at the hotel and I wasn't feeling very good, so then went to bed.

Today we went to Blarney Castle, me and mom climbed up and kissed the Blarney Stone. That is an adventure, up and down narrow winding steps. Then in the afternoon we toured Waterford Crystal and I bought an ornament.

Tonight we're staying in Kilkenny. This hotel has no AC, no fans and our room is about 90 degrees. We hung out in the air conditioned lobby for awhile. I think maybe the sun went behind some trees now so maybe I can open the curtains to let some breeze in this small window.

Tomorrow we end up in Dublin again for our last night before heading home.

You are having quite the adventure Beth! It sounds great, other than the hotel room with no AC.

We had a lovely Sunday here, the weather was PERFECT! Just in the mid 70s with no rain, I loved it! We went for a long ride on the horses, then I went home and cleaned. I actually scrubbed all my doors and door jams inside. Next weekend I will do the walls and baseboards.

Yesterday I went to work then went home and swam. It was wonderful. The heat is back, it was in the 80s, so the water felt good!

HI all!

Betty ~ welcome back! Sounds like you had an amazing adventure. Did you get a new bus after the brush with the camper?
I took a bus trip in England a couple of years ago & thought too, cruising is better, no packing up & moving on. On the all inclusive vacation I thought I'd rather be cruising, more to do & see so cruising is the thing for me!!

pirate ~ sounds like a great weekend. Good for you cleaning thoroughly too, bet you felt good after that!

Nothing much happening here. Oh I did go to a Christmas in July lunch yesterday then to the eye doctor to discuss getting the cataract removed from my left eye. I already had the right one done 11 years ago. The joys of getting old!!

Have a nice day.

Happy Friday Eve!

I am grumpy, I really started a diet in earnest yesterday and I am HANGRY. I am eating normally, just healthy stuff instead of the junk I got use to eating, and right now ALL I WANT is chocolate. I tried eating a "brownie" protein bar, and I spit it in the trash can....it tasted like cardboard. Grrrrrrr. Grocery shopping yesterday was fun though, my cart was so colorful with all the pretty veggies and fruits. I have a bunch of healthy recipes to try that I am excited about, they just better taste better than that "brownie!"

Anyone have any good weekend plans?

Hi all!

pirate ~ I feel your pain! I've gained 2 lbs since last week, could have been the Christmas dinner followed by Chinese buffet Wednesday!! I lost the 2 lbs I gained on my trip only to gain it back in a week!
I crave chocolate daily so usually have a chocolate covered frozen yogurt for dessert, only 90 calories. I have resorted to eating some chocolate chips when nothing else is around.:o

Good luck with healthier eating, summer's the time when it's the easiest with all the fresh produce.

I just noticed the itinerary on my Sunshine cruise next Dec has changed from stopping at HMC & going instead to Princess Cays. Either of you been there & if so how does it compare?

Have a nice weekend. Going to be another hot one here.

I quit dieting a couple years ago. Now I'm trying to slowly change my eating habits. I'm on the process of eliminating high fructose corn syrup, which is used in some surprising products. And eating more fruit and vegetables.

I'm not much of a chocolate person, but my mom and aunt traveled around Ireland buying and eating chocolate I had very little. I keep a dish of cruise pillow chocolate and mom goes straight to it whenever she comes over.

I have never been to HMC, but from reading it sounds like it's bette than Princess Cay.

My weekend plans include laundry and ironing, some shopping, Costco, grocery and Target and acclimating to my home time zone.

HAHAHA Tommy, reading your posts about grilling brats at 6 am gave me the laugh I just needed! So was that your breakfast?

Im not really dieting per say, just trying to make healthier food choices and portion control. I did blow it yesterday since we had a pool party at my place, I drank wayyyy too many spiked seltzer waters. We had a good buffet of food going, yum.

Beth, how does it feel to be back home? Settled back in and adjusted to our time?

HI all!

Tommy ~ I'm not even up at 6 let alone thinking about cooking!!

pirate ~ wish there was quick way of getting the weight off, I just love to eat!
Yesterday we went to an English tea room & on the weekend I'm going to a Christmas in July supper & really looking forward to it. It is a bit easier to watch what you eat in summer I think, with all the fresh produce around.

Betty ~ have you recovered from your trip yet? Do you do anything like make a photo book with the pictures you took?

Have a nice weekend, going to be another hot one here.

Hello all!

It’s been a pretty good weekend here. Yesterday I didn’t get to ride as we had some NASTY storms roll in just as we got ready to ride. We had hail and lots of lightning, eek! I went grocery shopping and got some yummy fruits and other essentials.

Today we had church in the morning, then I went to the horses. We were able to get in a quick (5 minute) ride before the storms arrived. Dang summertime weather! I came home and decided to make my lunches and snacks for work. I tried a vegetarian chickpea salad that I think will be yummy, and I made a fruit salad to have as snacks. Then since we are having bun-less hamburgers for dinner I whipped together a potato salad using Greek yogurt instead of mayo as the base. It’s different, but I think it’s edible! Haha.

Everyone keep your fingers crossed for Chris on Wednesday, he interviews for a assistant chief job at his fire department. I hope he gets it, there are 5 guys interviewing.

Hey Hey!

Hmmm, it didn't work for me Beth. I can't wait to see them though, I imagine Ireland as being gorgeous!!

We had good weather yesterday after work so I got to ride. Pirate was mostly good, although he did try and act like a turd once. He found out real quick I wasn't coming off though, so I won that battle. :)

Friday night my Uncle is parking his van (he lives out of it) in my yard and we are having a pool party. It'll be fun, we always have a blast when he comes over. Then Saturday we are going to have a "party" and finish the woodshed, hooray! It'll be nice to have nice dry wood for the woodstove this winter. We have been covering it with a tarp but sometimes it would still get damp and not burn so good.

I went before work and "invested in my retirement," aka bought a few lottery tickets. Cross your fingers I win in tonight's drawing! Hahahaha.

Hi all!

Betty ~ yes that one worked! Thanks so much for sharing. It looked like a lovely trip with some yummy food, a few brewskis & beautiful scenery. Love those stained glass windows & flowers
especially. Had you been overseas before?

pirate ~ sounds like some fun times! Hope your ticket wins!!

I had a nice day yesterday on a bus trip to Toronto to have lunch & see the Famous People Players Theatre. It was really good. The bus driver brought us back along the scenic route through Toronto so a trip down memory lane for me. I miss my hometown although I see it now has 2,732,000 people!!

Have a nice weekend. Nothing much doing here but lucky DD & DSIL are headed to Chicago, such an interesting place!

It was my first time to Ireland, I'd love to go back. I haven't been to many places in Europe. Before cruising we spent a long weekend in London once. We've done two Mediterranean cruises. One out of Barcelona, to the south of France and several stops along the west coast of Italy and then the we did in 2016, which was mostly Greece along with Turkey and some Italy.

I'd love to do more, but the time and extra dollars for flights and tours makes it spendy.

Hello!

Beth, thanks for sharing the pictures. It really does look lovely over there, one day I would love to go!

I had a good ride after work tonight. The weather was perfect, and it was a great way to end the evening.

Not too much else is going on here. I’m glad tomorrow is Friday, this week has wore me out.

HI all!

Betty ~ that's quite a bit of Europe you've seen! I love it, the old buildings/ruins especially.
Yes, the airfare makes it more difficult to go there, mine to Venice was $820.10. My friend Alie in Holland, can travel so cheaply between countries but when I asked her if she'll be coming on the Bliss in Nov. her answer was no, airfare is too much & flight too long for her.

pirate ~ sounds like a nice time after work. Always looking forward to Friday & the weekend when one works.;)Fridays come along much faster when you're retired!!

Not much going on here this week just an eye dr appt Thursday when I think I'll go to the casino for lunch then take the HOHO bus around the city an hour away from here.
My friend & I have to pick a day to see the new Mamma Mia movie.
Will either of you see it?
We also have a little Elvis Festival but that's not until the 4th.
Have a nice weekend.

Hello!

Jo, I don’t think I’ll be seeing Mamma Mia, it’s not my cup of tea. A coworker is all about it though, she’s been singing songs from the movie the past few days. Haha.

My weekend was fantastic, I wish it was longer! Now I’m back at work, pfffftt! Darn that lottery ticket being a winner. Maybe I should take $5 a week and invest it in tickets, maybe I’d win then!

Tommy and I love Mamma Mia! we've seen the play several time and loved the first movie. Plus we both love Cher. So I'm sure we'll love this one too. But since we don't go to movies in the theater much probably won't see it until its on TV.

Why are weekends so short?

HI all!

pirate ~ glad you had a great weekend. Too bad about the lottery loss.;) If you put the $5 aside each week you know you'd come out ahead, maybe just short of a million, lol!

Betty ~ I liked Mamma Mia the play too & saw it twice. I have the dvd & it's a good one where you can sing along to the songs, or not, then has a whole disc of extras. I'm probably going to see it a week from today if all goes well. My neighbour said the new movie should really be viewed on the big screen.

Hey, did you see this?https://www.cruisecritic.com/news/news.cfm?ID=8787
It made me long for a Guy's burger & Italian food just reading it!!

Have a nice day.

Guess what Beth? I booked one today! Hahahaha I got Chris and I a Lido interior on the Sept. 16 cruise from NYC to Bermuda. I'm frigging excited, we get to return to NYC and go back and do the things we didn't get to do in Bermuda when we were there in 2015. :)

Chris didn't get the assistant chief position at his full time job that he applied for. :( Not sure what he is going to do now, he said he feels stuck in his position as there is nowhere else for him to move up to.

We are getting lots of rain here today, and they have flood watches out. Hopefully we won't get too much rain and have those floods happen, we have had a lot this year!

Congrats on booking the Sunrise.!

I like the itinerary that goes to Bermuda and Grand Turk, but not the time of year.

I can't book anything. I just got all my cruises figured out and have to refrain from booking more because Tommy really doesn't have the time off work. Our two short cruises in October are going to cause havoc:o

Beth, I like that itinerary too and was debating, but the one I booked fits best with our schedule. It's pretty bad that I am sailing SunSHINE over my birthday next year (get off her Aug 29) and then on Sept 16 I will be boarding the SunRISE. Hahaha.

I'm itching to get back to Aruba, Curacao and Grand Turk! I was going thru my cruise photos and the ones from my trip to Aruba and Curacao on the Liberty had me really wanting to explore more there. We have to make a group trip there in 2021 happen Beth! :)

We are getting yet more rain today. The rivers and creeks are up, hopefully it will lay off soon so we don't flood!

Okay I will start again, I was almost done with a long post and it just went poof:mad:

I think it's awesome that you're cruising Sunshine and Sunrise so close, you can do a special compare review. It looked like Serenity on Sunrise wasn't going to be as nice as on Sunshine.

Since we're getting a Grand Turk fix on the Regal in 2020, I will focus on Aruba for 2021. If we can get ABC and Grand Turk that would be a bonus. I'm hoping for Conquest, Glory or Valor so I can book a 1A with two lowers, otherwise will probably book a lido deck inside or a cove balcony if Dream class. I just won't do Vista Class, I don't like them way too crowded and over priced.

Hi all!

pirate ~ WTG! I thought you'd be tempted! Great to be doing both "Suns". I look forward to Sunshine but not until Dec '19.

That reminds me weather here is hot as H**l, I was really dripping today. We need some rain, preferably overnight.;)

Well somebody from my Bliss cruise posted a TA that I just couldn't resist so I cancelled my cruises on Breakaway & Glory from New Orleans & am instead sailing from New York to 2 places in Ireland, one supposedly overnight, England, France, Belgium & ending up in Holland in April, when I was originally doing Symphony!!

Look at you two with just over 2 months to go until your next cruises!!(y)

Have a nice weekend, it's a long one up here.

HeyHey, it's Friday, whoo hoo!

The rain continues here today. I will happily send it your way Jo! I think it is supposed to finally end tonight. We are soggy and need to dry out!

Beth, I have to agree about the Vista class. I adore the Havana area, but if I cant have a Havana cabin I don't want to sail them....too crowded! But Havana is soooooo expensive. By far I think the Dream class ships are my favorite. I don't care too much for the Conquest class as I despise the stadium type seating on Lido, I feel like that makes the deck feel claustrophobic. But hey, any ship is a good ship to me, it means I am on vacation!

Jo, that cruise you booked sounds awesome! Way to go on booking it!

I need to get Chris a Grand Turk fix soon, he was looking at our bookings and they are all Western, then a Key west/Bahamas, then the partial Canal, and finally Cuba. He told me that under no uncertain terms he wants the next one I book to stop in GT. Hahaha.

This is so irritating, my post went poof again:mad:

We like the stadium seating at the main pool.

It seems like the Havanna area is twice as much as we paid on Vista. Crazy!

It's Monday....

Well, this time in 2 months I will be sailing away with Mom! Yahoo! We got our Halloween costumes all sorted out, since our sailing will be a Halloween sailing. Fun fun!

How was everyone's weekend? Mine was good, we had a impromptu family cookout yesterday and that was nice. Other than that, we didn't really do much as it was really hot and muggy.

Hi all!

pirate ~ got the rain you sent this way! What a thunderstorm during the night, the lightning lit up the whole house but no damage TG.

Betty ~ something like that happens to me sometimes & I just hate it. Usually my screen freezes, sometimes in the middle of a trivia I do daily, then it looks like it took me ages to do it.
Other times when I'm writing an email I push the backspace & a whole sentence disappears instead of just what I want gone!! Frustrating!!!:loudcry:

Tommy ~ I love San Francisco too. It's a favourite American city of lots of people.
My Alaska cruise on Infinity in May 2010 sailed from there which was great.
I really liked Alcatraz, such a fascinating place with many stories.

Did any of you watch "LIke Father" a Netflix movie filmed on Harmony of the Seas? It was pretty good & had nice scenes of what the ship offers?

Have a great day. I'm off to see Mamma MIa & eat popcorn.

~ Jo ~ :)
