navybankerteacher Posted July 13, 2018 #226 Share Posted July 13, 2018 You left out BEER ;) Of course, the BASIC three B’s: beef, butter and bacon do not include the ESSENTIAL supplements: beer, bread, bourbon, etc.

chengkp75 Posted July 13, 2018 #234 Share Posted July 13, 2018 The source is me - formerly a senior officer on several HAL Ships - including Maasdam. Maasdam has 2 commercial floor mixers. One is so rusty it can no longer be safely used. Yes, they still produce a few specialty bread items, and occasionally use the commercial mixer. They received a 99 USPH Score because the badly worn sheet roller and broken proofing cabinets were OOO, so could not be inspected to lower the score. Actually, any equipment that is out of order, but still installed is counted against the score, and it still must be clean. Sorry, late joining the thread. Sorry, late joining the thread. Last VSP report on Maasdam - 5/18 - no mention of a "rusted commercial floor mixer" in their pretty darn good 99 point score. CHPurser must have been referring to something much earlier, that has been already corrected. https://wwwn.cdc.gov/InspectionQueryTool/InspectionDetailReport.aspx?ColI=MTkzMDA1Mjc%3d-s1LROT6fZBY%3d

rjmccaw Posted July 14, 2018 #237 Share Posted July 14, 2018 (edited) Interesting thread. The OP notes that they don't like the bread on HAL (after 20x cruises), and a few pages later, the OP is deemed a constant complainer, someone who is miserable, someone who doesn't grasp the overall cruising experience, someone who's overly privileged and trying to feel superior to other people. C'mon, folks. I don't remember reading that the OP saw the bread as a deal-breaker, nor do I recall that the OP's life was ruined due to the bread. I suppose if I don't like something (the coffee? the pools? anything?) on my trip, I'd better be careful and not say anything about it, though perhaps it would be fun to see how people extrapolate on my comment. I don't cruise/travel for bread, either, but food in general is an important part of the trips I take. I doubt that the bread will be a major aspect of my Alaska trip (the coffee and salmon could be), but it certainly could be an issue on a Europe cruise. After all, France, Italy, and other countries are known for exquisite bread, but if you're stuck all evening on a ship with subpar bread, you're missing out on a flagship part of the cultures you're visiting. But YMMV. Not everyone cares about food on their trips. C'est la vie! Edited July 14, 2018 by rjmccaw
