I just recently won a bid to Haven Spa on a cruise that had the Haven Spa rooms sold out for more then 3 months before we left (Feb 1st Escape sailing).  Anything can happen, and it's not silly, it's insurance for them in case people cancel.

A case then of watch this space.

With some of the drastic price drops the last few weeks I realized that my bid for Tahiti to Hawaii for inside to balcony was close to be over if I bought it, so I went in and brought my bid down. So if you bid keep checking on the current pricing to make sure you are not bidding more than what the cabin is currently going for ,

Here is our experience….

We booked 2 inside cabins (2 months from cruising).  Within a few days of our booking, I logged in and noticed the upgrade bid link (I did not get an email).

Bid for cabin #1

Ocean view $60

Balcony      $130

We received the upgrade to Ocean view a few days after bidding.  Total $120

Bid for Cabin #2

Ocean View $60

Balcony        $170

We received the upgrade to the Balcony a few days after bidding.  Total $340

We cruise April 11th during spring break.

I know this probably been asked before but trying to search through 192 pages for the answer is not an option. I think I know the answer but want to be sure based on a comment on ani’s there thread.

I currently have an inside room with UBP perk and also $270 OBC. I placed a bid in for a balcony on a low bid. IF accepted will I still keep the perks and OBC? On another thread someone went from perk to sail away balcony and lost it all. They said it was a bid but seemed to me just a rebooking, but I want to make sure from all of you knowledgeable people (any previous bids I have done have been sail away to sail away so it didn’t matter)

There is technically no such thing as a bid to sailaway. Your upgrade will be GTY (they pick the cabin in the class you have bid for), which is how sailaway works, but with few, if any perks.  So if a person went to sailaway, it was an upgrade/rebooking so they would lose any perks not attached to sailaway.  So yes, with a bid you keep the perks and OBC you had.

Thanks, I thought that was the case but so many other things have been wonky lately I wanted to make sure.

You keep all of your booking perks when upgraded via the Upgrade Advantage. You gain/lose ROOM amenities when you are upgraded. So you would keep your Free At Sea perks and OBC. However, if you were in a spa balcony and upgraded to a non-spa Haven, you would lose your spa access, because that is associated with the room category, not your booking. Similarly, if you are in a non-Haven room and get upgraded to Haven, you get all of the room amenities of the Haven like concierge, butler, priority boarding, Haven access, etc.

I just saw my cruise for June out of Rome go down significantly.  I purchased an indoor and used my NCL mastercard points to upgrade to a OV.  Now I'm bidding on the various balcony categories.  I just lowered my bids and am considering just calling and paying the difference to the balcony, but feel like it could go down even further.  Has anyone got awarded upgrades for June or July sailings out our Italy?

Does anyone know if you pay to  upgrade through calling CAS ( on comp), do you receive the extra perks? For example, Im booked in an inside and inquiring about balcony.

I had an inside cabin, casino comp, booked through CAS.  Called last week due to the decrease in prices on my cruise, and was able to upgrade to a balcony for what I consider an OK cost.  Upon the upgrade, was also entitled to the 3 night dining package, the $50 per port excursion credit, the drink package, which I already had, and the free 250 minutes of internet.  So I went from one perk to 4.

you get the perks of the category of your original comp.

fortunately, the current promo gives all perks even for Inside.

Do you think there is a better chance of having a minimum bid accepted now with people possibly cancelling their cruises?

It's still all about supply and demand, so if your cruise week before sailing is not full, yes there would be more upgrades, but so far I've not heard of ships not sailing at full capacity but that could start to happen,

March 8th sailing on the Getaway out of New Orleans. Booked in a mid ship inside.  Upgraded today, Wednesday March 4th to a balcony cabin.  Bid $200 per person which was at the bottom of the fair range.  The balcony cabins were sold out except for the Sail Away rate.  I guess I'm lucky to get an upgrade.  Now showing no balconies available at all.

Congratulations we bid a little less and haven't been upgraded yet. Raised it just last night so we'll see what comes.

Just an update, I called CAS and purchased an upgrade from inside to balcony. They gave me all the current perks with the exception of the $200 OBC (balcony), I received $100 OBC based on my original comp category. I paid $210 for a B3, which worked really well with the added dining pkg and WIFI( which I previously purchased, and will now get refunded).

Whats the upgrade landscape looking like these days with all the discounted fares? I am on the Escape 03/28. Booked in an MB currently. Placed upgrade offers on H5, H6, H7. What is NCLs pricing policy if I call to upgrade to the Haven from my Mini Suite? Do they just charge the difference from the original booking price to the current price, or will they offer a better price to upgrade?

Thanks all!

Typically you would pay the difference between what you already paid and the current price of the room you are switching to.
