What was your upgrade offer and what did you bid

Recommended Posts

We are 90 days out and when I do a mock booking online there is still 35 balcony cabins available. Do you think we have a good shot to be offered to do a bidding from an inside cabin to a balcony ?

Yes, they do give out upgrades at the last moment, so if a mock booking shows availability for the category you want, it is worth it to keep an active bid.  As far as adding another bid for the spa balcony, that's a personal preference.  Will you be completely bummed if you get NO upgrade?  Then yes, add the other bid.  If you really ONLY want the mini, keep it as is.  Best of Luck!!

Thank you for your advice!!

Edit: spa mini showing sold out on mock booking and spa balcony showing not available hmm

@traelee01  I think that is the first of the two unique 10 day itineraries for the Epic? We are on the second one in Jan! Can’t wait I to hear how it goes, would love to have those dailies (I’m a planner) if you wouldn’t mind! Happy sailing, keep my seat warm!!!

Lynn

No problem I'll be sure to report back 😉

If you can change your offer up to 48hrs prior to departure, but they have up to 48 hours prior to departure to send acceptance notices...does that mean that you could hypothetically get notified AT 48hrs prior to departure? How often does this happen and is it worth upping your bid (or placing a ne bid on another category) say 49hrs before departure?

My cruise sails Thursday so I am getting anxious!! Wondering if I should bid on spa balcony in addition to spa mini but would rather have the mini...

When I was upgrade from inside to balcony on the Gem in June, we received our upgrade at about noon on the Friday before our Sunday sailing. So you can definitely receive an upgrade that late.

People on my cruise in 2 days just got upgrade notices today. Others report they didn't know until they checked in at the port (on previous cruises) 🙂

When I found out about the upgrade at the port I had taken a train for 20 hours and not updated my boarding pass, so it may have been approved 48 hours out, but I was not vigilently checking my emails so I didn't know until I was boarding.

I was notified today that my bid was accepted.

Sailing on the Getaway from Miami this Sunday, December 9. We were upgraded from an inside cabin to a balcony.

Just  yesterday(12-2) I increased my bid for a balcony from $55 to $65.  It was definitely in the "poor" range. I also bid on an Ocean View at $45.

There was an option to bid on a Spa Balcony, but I didn't even place a bid there.

We are thrilled with what we got!

We are in a forward PH on the Sun.   Is there any reason why we have been only offered to bid on a OS upgrade.  There are three higher category aft PH’s open.

Just curious, I don’t know if I would bid on those anyway...

I am actively monitoring Haven upgrades for my 12/21 Escape sailing, and as a result I  have become obsessed with trying to figure out NCL's system for awarding bids.

This post makes me wonder... as time ticks on and the sailing approaches,  does it make sense to slightly increase a bid?  Could there be some kind of tipping point in the logarithm  - i.e.,  if someone offers THIS, we'll take it now?  OR,  does it seem like all of the upgrades are awarded on a single day -  i.e., - on Dec. 15, we'll take the best we've got and be done with it?

I'm on the same cruise 12/21. I thought the same thing so I drastically upped my bid (from poor to excellent) for 2 days to see if it would make a difference. It did not make for an immediate upgrade so I changed it back. Have you signed up for the CC meet & greet? Interested to see how and when our upgrades come through. I am thinking next week....

my h3 room bid went too poor all the way down...  did a mick booking, none were available-- possibly why it went to poor.

I was in the same situation as you, about a week ago -- on the 12/9 Escape sailing.  We had 50 open Haven at  about 13 days out.  At 12 days, they awarded over half the Haven cabins -- seemed like they went primarily to upper tier balcony and mini suite passengers --we were in a BF, so I upped my bid about $200 more pp, and a few days later, they did another round of acceptances and I got a 2bdrm Haven.  So, look at your category and estimate that a B3 balcony or mini-suite can possibly get good news with a lower bid than a BF balcony.  We are now 6 days out, and there are about 4-5 Haven left -- I'm expecting that on Thurs or Friday, 4-5 people will get great news.  Good Luck!!

3kidsncats this is great info, and I agree with your thought process.   I'm in a BF currently. Thanks!

I think it’s very possible that some people are gaining more gray hair and losing more brain cells over the bidding to the point that any money they save over “full price” isn’t close to worth it.  In watching all this, it’s like the usual 😬 of looking forward to a cruise gets turned into 😰

Hope it helps you!  It is stressful, and it was super hard to not be included in that first group.  But, it did help me to decide my final bid adjustments successfully.

Possibly, but I couldn't afford the full price so this was the only option -- and a few gray hairs is worth the experience we are about to have, in the Haven.  My brain cells are currently celebrating and about to feel quite rejuvenated

Driving to work in the morning is stressful.  This? This is fun, at least for me, and part of the anticipation. See the Obsessive Cruise Planning thread.

I do agree that if it’s really giving someone gray hair, maybe they should skip it.

Maybe they will be moving some from the H3 so you can have it!!  Good luck!

So my new hypothesis on upgrades:

NCL takes in to account all your previous cruise history's spending habits while on board.

The more that you spent on such things as excursions, dining, at the casino or even in the gift shop, then then greater the chance of you being sent an upgrade offer because in theory you should spend at least that much or the same this time around.

I can see from their perspective that at least your chances are better you will spend vs someone's cruise history that shows little to no spending at all.

What do you think?

So I've been continually keeping an eye on the rooms available for my 1/23 cruise on the Epic, and I saw something unusual today.

For some reason, two new cabin categories came available today that have not been available since I started tracking on 11/9.  Family Balcony categories B2 (12 cabins) and B5 (47 cabins) are now available to purchase.  I'm not complaining, that seems to take the available pool of balcony rooms from 26 to 85 and gives me hope that we might get our upgrade, but I wonder where all those rooms came from all of a sudden.

We're exactly 50 days out... maybe that's significant somehow?  Maybe the rooms were being held for travel agents or something, and at 50 days out they're returned to general stock?

Your chances of being SENT an offer, or your chances that your offer is accepted?

I'm not sure your history would have anything to do with whether or not you're sent an offer.  I've never been on an NCL cruise before, and we got our offer to bid right around the 80 day mark as seems to be the usual standard.

I am a first time cruiser and hoping I will be able to bid. How do you think they decide that for us?
