nvcruise Posted July 26, 2018 #330 Share Posted July 26, 2018 Laundry bags had to be bedside by noon on Day 4 (Tallinn), and will be returned on Day 7 (Helsinki). We sent two bags out... and will let you know when they return. Thank you! Remind me to buy you a ration of the grog should we ever sail together. TheDougOut Posted July 26, 2018 Author #332 Share Posted July 26, 2018 One of Catherine the Great’s 15,000 dresses... The Palace is the only air conditioned museum. Why? It’s at Putin’s request, as he likes to host official events here.
TheDougOut Posted July 26, 2018 Author #333 Share Posted July 26, 2018 Exiting the palace, Dmitri tells us that the standby line (not in a group) is currently over two hours long. Alla Tours has been fantastic... having not stood in a single line all day. On the way back to the bus, our group gets attacked by an Eeyore... TheDougOut Posted July 26, 2018 Author #334 Share Posted July 26, 2018 We stop by a gift shop to pay for our Alla Tours for the week. Our 5-city / 6-day tour, including all transportation, admissions and several meals, arrived at $705 per adult and $632 per student. The suggested gratuity is 10% for the guide and 5% for the driver, which we calculated against the non-discounted individual city tour. This totaled another $125 per person. TheDougOut Posted July 26, 2018 Author #338 Share Posted July 26, 2018 You might have just started a National Controversy with that Trump Coffee Cup mixed in With Vladimir Putin Coffee cup[emoji3] It was actually a two-sided mug, with Putin and Trump on opposite sides. Dmitri mentioned that Trump has been the typical lead story on the news each night. By the way, Dmitri has been a phenomenal tour guide. Along the way I asked him if he studied history at university, and he laughed. He graduated with a mechanical engineering degree, but engineers get paid quite poorly in this country. It’s because of this that he’s drawing off of his love of Russian history by being a tour guide.

TheDougOut Posted July 26, 2018 Author #345 Share Posted July 26, 2018 Why is it so empty? It’s a port day, it’s somewhat of an older demographic cruise, plus we’re overnighting in St. Petersburg. I know there are several music / ballet excursion options in the evening.

Seminole1975 Posted July 26, 2018 #350 Share Posted July 26, 2018 10:20 PM Balcony Skyline... My understanding was that the tall building in the picture was recently built by a Russian gas company and that they wanted it to be the tallest building in Russia.
