We need a specific kind of cabin so would like to book as soon as they go on sale.

Keep checking P and O website as they will put specific information on nearer the time.Alternatively register with one of the specialist cruise travel agents so they can let you know all the details.They will also be able to help with specific cabin choice.

Here's the latest update. They are going to have suites with a conservatory. The rest also look very nice, for those of us who can't afford a balcony.

After reading that the soot issue on Britannia is still a problem and thinking it won't be a problem with Iona's LNG engines, then I read that AIDAnova, it's sister ship, will have diesel engines to power the on board services elecricity.

Diesel is far different to the heavy marine oil the engines are powered by.

I understand that Britannia is powered by diesel electric motors, rather the HFO.

Yes the point I was making was that if Iona also has secondary diesel engines, then she may also have a soot problem.

MV Britannia has two 12 cylinder and two 14 cylinder diesel engines that usually burn HFO.

 

Each diesel engine drives a generator.

Whilst I wouldn’t book another aft cabin on Britannia, I was hoping to be able to do so on Iona, however, I have noticed that there are outdoor public areas all along the aft of the ship on the promenade deck, so I wouldn’t consider a cabin above them for fear of noise disturbance late at night. Shame.

I'm sure I read somewhere that the inside cabin are 140 square feet, if that is right it makes it 20 square feet less than on Ventura. I can't find where I read it now. I wonder how the other cabins compare.

Checking Aidanova cabin dimensions, inside cabins are 140-170 sq. ft

The one we stayed in was 164 sq. ft. If I did read somewhere the size as being 140 then that is tiny, unless it was a single cabin. I will have to try and find where I read it.

According to the P&O website, Ventura's inside cabins vary from (approx) 137 - 181 sq ft.

They will release the deck plans and prices for pre-registration on Monday 3rd September.

But that is too late you can pre-register from 8am on 3rd September so how can you pre register for a particular cabin when you dont cabins, deck plans and prices.

If that's your idea of sexy, I feel very sorry for you ;).

 

Seriously though, whilst I am not interested in sailing on Iona, I think this area could be really good. They do however have to ensure they get some key things right. The air-con must be very effective otherwise people will boil in the sun and freeze in cooler climes. Also, with several eating places (including a grill and pizzeria & street-food) and the chlorine from the pool, the extraction system needs to be good & quiet!
