Belle on board Posted July 25, 2018 #1 Share Posted July 25, 2018 Just looking into booking a cruise from Vancouver to LA on QE next July 2019 and it seems that for a lot of cabin grades it is only possible to book a guarantee fare. I don't mind this per se. I was just wondering why this might be? Is it because the ship is particularly booked up already? Thanks in advance. john watson Posted July 25, 2018 #2 Share Posted July 25, 2018 I think the problem is overlapping itineraries. This sort of thing happens when people join a cruise half way through other passengers cruises. A frequent problem on world cruises with start points partway through others shorter sector cruises. These people might need a cabin beyond the start date of subsequent passengers and so on. Provided no specific cabins have been allocated it is easier to efficiently accommodate everybody in one cabin for their complete cruise. If people were able to book specific cabins it might be that a later passenger could be accommodated but have to change cabins in the middle of their cruise as others leave which is unacceptable. In my opinion free upgrades are more likely as they shift passengers on paper. Regards John
