SarcasmSpasm Posted July 30, 2018 #1 Share Posted July 30, 2018 I tried to find info on this but perhaps my question is too specific. We are sailing in a 2BR GS and have a 6 year old and a 1 year old. We are planning to sleep in the main bedroom and have the kids in the other bedroom. The living room area is essentially inbetween the two bedrooms. I was wondering if anyone had experience in this specific type of cabin and using a baby monitor? Does it work? We have visions of sitting on our balcony when kids go to bed and also monitoring them from our bedroom to theirs. Will the signal reach through the walls? Thanks! Clarea Posted July 30, 2018 #2 Share Posted July 30, 2018 Yes, it should work, as long as the radio is independent of WiFi.
cb at sea Posted July 30, 2018 #3 Share Posted July 30, 2018 Even tho there is a space between the 2 bedrooms, you will certainly hear them if they cry out or need you. Perhaps a bluetooth baby monitor (no video, just audio) would work better.
chengkp75 Posted July 30, 2018 #4 Share Posted July 30, 2018 It may work over that short a distance, but it would be benefited by leaving the intervening doors (or at least one door) open. If it's a video monitor, the video may degrade due to the steel, but audio should be okay.
SarcasmSpasm Posted July 30, 2018 Author #5 Share Posted July 30, 2018 Great! Thanks everyone for your replies. Might just use an audio monitor...
fredflint Posted July 30, 2018 #6 Share Posted July 30, 2018 If you are using a monitor you want one that uses 2.4 GHz band not a 5GHz one. 2.4 will go thru walls better anfd 900 MHz will work even better.

Rare cruiselvr04 Posted July 31, 2018 #8 Share Posted July 31, 2018 Yes it will work. We used one from an inside to a balcony at least 20 ft away and it worked fine.
CruiszBug Posted July 31, 2018 #9 Share Posted July 31, 2018 We just got back from a cruise on Allure in a HA Crown Loft. It worked great. We had our daughter upstairs and we could see her downstairs perfectly.
J0wen Posted November 10, 2018 #10 Share Posted November 10, 2018 RCCL lists baby monitors in the list of prohibited items. I don’t know when your cruise is but I’d hate for it to be confiscated as they are not cheap. You could try a monitor app like ANNIE that connects via WiFi thru your phone and tablet.
