Rare LMaxwell Posted August 7, 2018 #1 Share Posted August 7, 2018 Awhile back I upgraded from a deck 2 oceanview on Victory 4 nighter to a deck 7 balcony for something crazy like $28. I love the OV rooms but $28 is nothing, so I took it. It's near the rear of the ship, close to rear stairs. So 2 flights down to the nightlife action in rear lounge/piano bar, one more after that to dining room (we have fixed time, so will be in rear dining room; also the dining room they do brunch, tea, and departure breakfast in). 2 quick flights up to rear of lido deck near pizza pirate and "sneak in" back way to buffet. Seems like a good location, I am pretty content with it. Today they called and offered me a lido deck balcony for $38 more total; port side way forward. Still have cabins above and below but it just seems like a more inconvenient spot to get to places besides the pool deck / night movies or the Serenity deck. I know $38 isn't much more, and I am still pretty happy with my deck 7 cabin. What are your thoughts? take it or don't bother.
lizardhowson Posted August 7, 2018 #2 Share Posted August 7, 2018 Lido Deck balconies are the best. Take it !
MediumB Posted August 7, 2018 #3 Share Posted August 7, 2018 I think you already answered your own question: Deck 7: "........Seems like a good location, I am pretty content with it." Deck 9 "............but it just seems like a more inconvenient spot to get to places besides the pool deck / night movies or the Serenity deck." I'd stick to deck 7 myself based on proximity to dining areas.
TNcruising02 Posted August 7, 2018 #4 Share Posted August 7, 2018 It's a personal choice, but I would take it. I was able to snag a cabin on the lido deck one time and it was the best location I ever had. I loved the location.
Rare LMaxwell Posted August 7, 2018 Author #5 Share Posted August 7, 2018 Lots of people say they love Lido; what was it that you found you liked about it? I am not a lounge in the sun around the main pool kind of guy, so limited appeal there. But would be interested to hear if there is something I am not considering. RHilla619 Posted August 7, 2018 #7 Share Posted August 7, 2018 I would stick to what you have. Yes it's only another $38, but for what? 2 decks higher and less convenient for getting places. Pass.
blarko Posted August 7, 2018 #8 Share Posted August 7, 2018 I’d take the Lido deck upgrade. I always try to book my cabin on Lido. I like being “close to home” if I forgot something in the room, want to use my own bathroom or just need to run back to the room for whatever reason. lasnev Posted August 7, 2018 #9 Share Posted August 7, 2018 We had a similar situation on the Magic a couple of months ago. Upgraded to balcony on deck 7 from OV for a little more of what you paid, then got an email for an upsell to Lido deck for less than $40.00 total. We didn't take it. I had thought about it long and hard before taking deck 7 where we wanted to be. Loved the fact that we could go up or down 2 or 3 flights of stairs and be in the middle of it all. Proved to be a good decision last week as the first couple of days of our cruise the elevators were pretty jammed up.
Rare SRQbeachgirl Posted August 7, 2018 #10 Share Posted August 7, 2018 We were on the Magic two weeks ago with a balcony cabin on the Lido deck. Best location we've ever had and loved it. Easy access to the Lido Cafe, elevators right outside our hallway to the lobby, shops, GS, etc.
dmdiver Posted August 7, 2018 #11 Share Posted August 7, 2018 I love Lido deck, but the cabin you have is good, too. For me, I spend most of my day on Lido when we are at sea & don't mind going down to dinner. If you feel like you won't spend much time on Lido, then stay where you are. As you said, it's not that far from lounges & dining room. If you will be going to those areas most of the time, it makes more sense to stay. I'm happy as long as I have cabins above & below. ZoeyVictoria Posted August 7, 2018 #12 Share Posted August 7, 2018 I had to book a guarantee a few months ago (last minute booking) and wound up in an accessible inside just inside the Lido doors. Hated the room and the location, will never book a guarantee again. There was never a bit of peace and quiet, always lots of people coming and going, and elevators were always an issue. I know a lot of people love staying on the Lido deck, but I can’t figure out why.

We had this option on a cruise a few years ago and we took it. We loved it so much this is the only cabin spot we will book from now on.
sturderick Posted August 7, 2018 #14 Share Posted August 7, 2018 LOVE lido cabins. Even if you're not a sun worshiper the food is right there! It's close to the movies at night and has the interior elevators that take you right down to the action. My husband would go out and get breakfast and coffee and bring it right to the room so we could have it on the balcony and it was only a 5 minute trip. We have never had issues with the elevator. We always get a lido room and yes, we've been on the 7th floor and still liked it better. The front lido rooms are quieter than the others too. jakesnana Posted August 7, 2018 #15 Share Posted August 7, 2018 I would stay with your deck 7 location. That's where I strive to be when I book. Love being close to those aft elevators, especially late at night when I want a slice of pizza and cup of coffee on the way back to the cabin. Joebucks Posted August 7, 2018 #16 Share Posted August 7, 2018 Personally, I could never do a deck 2. Way too far away from Lido if I need to go to my room. Deck 7 however, is not bad at all. I actually prefer it, and it may sound silly. Only being a few floors away, I will forego the wait on the elevator, and get some good exercise in on the stairs. sc4125 Posted August 7, 2018 #17 Share Posted August 7, 2018 I have stayed in a Lido interior on two occasions & loved it. In October we will be in a Lido balcony on the Glory & I can't wait!! The reason I loved the Lido deck is because 1)it was great being able to run out and grab a cup of coffee and breakfast & bring back to the cabin, 2) never a wait for an elevator - almost all of them are headed to the Lido, 3) very quiet, the only traffic being others in the cabins near you, and 4) like someone else said, when I am out on the Lido, I can run back to the cabin for whatever. The elevators are the mid (Atrium) elevators and they quickly take you to all of the action. I spend a lot of time in the casino on sea days, but it's a quick trip. I normally choose a cabin in the aft of the ship and I wasn't sure how I felt about being on the Lido (mid ship), but I absolutely loved it. If I can't get Lido, I do still choose cabins in the back of the ship for convenience and try to stay 2 decks down from Lido. The Lido cabins I've stayed in & will be staying in have all been more Mid-ship than way Forward, so not sure if they would be as convenient to running out to the Lido for food or drinks. Either way, you can't go wrong.
K&RCurt Posted August 7, 2018 #18 Share Posted August 7, 2018 We had a Lido Deck balcony on the Victory in February and LOVED it! It was a longer trip to the aft dining room, but everything else we love was closer and easy to access, Serenity area, pool deck, Guys, Blue Iguana, buffet area. It was very convenient yet never had any issue with traffic in the hallway as no one would bother to go down there given the access in the center of the ship. We liked it so much we got a Lido balcony for our cruise on the Sunshine next February. I would go for it.
Bert64 Posted August 7, 2018 #19 Share Posted August 7, 2018 Our November Glory cruise will be the first time we have a balcony on the Lido, and I'm looking forward to it. I was initially concerned about noise and foot traffic from everyone being on Lido, but from what I read it isn't an issue. Also liked being sandwiched with cabins above and below. Looking forward to being "closer to the action" and we can get exercise if we need to take the stairs downstairs. For $38 more total, I'd take it. Rare MistyRo76 Posted August 7, 2018 #20 Share Posted August 7, 2018 We used to always book Deck 7 cabins for the very reasons you mentioned - two decks up or down to everything we wanted to do! Great locations. On our last two cruises, we booked balconies on Lido. And we loved that too. It was very convenient with our daughter if we wanted to grab a bite or had to run back to the room during the day. But this was on the Breeze and Vista where some of the lower balconies (deck 7-8) tend to look right out over the outer promenade deck that juts out a bit further. Those balconies seemed less private so we ended up going higher up and further forward on those two ships. If not for that factor, I would have definitely stayed with Deck 7! Djptcp Posted August 7, 2018 #22 Share Posted August 7, 2018 We have a Lido Deck balcony cabin booked for Dec. and am looking forward to it. After 33 Carnival cruises, first time having a cabin on the Lido. The cabin is starboard and close to the entrance to the pool area, but there is a separate hallway for the cabins and not the main hallway people would take to get to the elevators from the pool area. Wouldn't do it otherwise with so many passengers going back and forth all day. The OP seems happy with current balcony upgrade, so why take the new offer to the Lido? rprice11 Posted August 7, 2018 #23 Share Posted August 7, 2018 Our first balcony cabin ever was an upgrade to a Lido balcony. We spend all sea days hanging out by the pool so it was perfect for us. I’m pretty sure I’ll never not have a balcony cabin.
