azarak Posted August 16, 2018 #1 Share Posted August 16, 2018 Does anyone know if the MDR's are open for lunch on Embarkation day on Allure? We are very much a fan of having a sit down lunch in the MDR's on embarkation. We have found that it is a way to decompress after an active loud morning and to relax and take a breather from the excitement. With young children in tow we love to sit in a rather quiet atmosphere and talk about the week ahead and form a game plan for "what's next". The MDR is not open for lunch on embarkation day, except possibly for a special group, such as B2B guests. Your choice for a quiet, sit down lunch would be a specialty restaurant (extra cost) like Giovanni's.
cruisegoal100 Posted August 16, 2018 #3 Share Posted August 16, 2018 Park Café is also open for lunch on embarkation day on Oasis class ships. In our opinion it is a much better choice than the Windjammer.
azarak Posted August 16, 2018 Author #4 Share Posted August 16, 2018 Ahh good to know. Yeah I think I may have to do that. I'm just not a huge fan of the buffet on Embarkation day. Everyone is excited (rightfully so) and normally by lunch time I'm hungry, tired, and at the end of my proverbial rope so a few years ago we discovered on some ships the MDR is open on embarkation. It was amazing and this mama was ready for the rest of the day when lunch was over. I will definitely take a look and see where we want to decompress. Thanks Bob! Clarea Posted August 16, 2018 #6 Share Posted August 16, 2018 In my experience, Park Cafe is not a quiet experience, plus it gets very crowded very fast. It is complimentary however.
rncruiser Posted August 16, 2018 #7 Share Posted August 16, 2018 Even though it is a buffet, the Solarium Cafe is a great place for boarding, or any day, lunch. Especially on boarding day it is not crowded and generally peaceful. Sent from my iPhone using Forums

Pmorton3360 Posted August 16, 2018 #9 Share Posted August 16, 2018 I usually do Solarium the first day. Miss the dining room experience on Princess. This next trip I'm doing Chops for lunch. On sale $17.60 sounds good and relaxing. Depending on age of children, may be a discount for them. lovelife Posted August 16, 2018 #10 Share Posted August 16, 2018 Another vote for Solarium Bistro for boarding day lunch. We go as soon as it opens and it is always uncrowded and quiet for a good while. Love the seafood paella.
Ashland Posted August 16, 2018 #11 Share Posted August 16, 2018 We love the WJ.....just part of the traditional fun and chaos :p
azarak Posted August 16, 2018 Author #12 Share Posted August 16, 2018 Good to know about the Solarium Bistro. I guess I figured it was adult only since the Solarium was Adult only. I did look at Chops lunch. Children 6-12 are 1/2 price and my kids fall into that category. I think I will surf the posted menu's and figure out which direction we are going to go. Heck we may just end up in Windjammer which is fine but day 1 is always so hectic that I just really like that tiny window of downtime to recharge and fill the belly. Pmorton3360 Posted August 16, 2018 #14 Share Posted August 16, 2018 In 16 cruises, I've never done WJ first day. In fact I've only eaten a few times there. They look good, but never seem to find anything. I have had ice cream sundae for dinner a couple times though. livelovelaugh84 Posted August 20, 2018 #18 Share Posted August 20, 2018 My first experience of WJ on embarkation day almost had me give up on cruising forever! It was total chaos and I assumed it would be like that at all times. Of course, we soon realised it’s not! We now always get our food and take it out of the WJ to eat outside. Many people comment what a good idea it is and do the same! Much more peaceful and enjoyable! Sent from my iPhone using Forums
livinthedream99 Posted August 20, 2018 #19 Share Posted August 20, 2018 We also enjoy the Solarium Bistro. Although, we may need to try chops next time around!
