Man overboard on Norwegian Star

Given she went overboard about midnight, I wonder if the all inclusive beverage package had anything to do with it?

I wonder if the truth will ever be known. Is she really going to admit to doing something stupid in order to “fall”?

Gotta love the Daily Mail, they even plugged the ship with an ad (even indicating the number bars!)

"It is said to feature '15 delicious dining options, 10 bars and lounges, a sprawling spa, an always-exciting casino with VIP area, plus tonnes of fun for kids of every age'."

Great news. It is amazing that someone can survive the fall, then survive in the water.

How someone can survive so long is indeed a mystery - and amazing.

But I've always wondered how those who search can actually find someone if they've lost eyesight, and even worse, if they've sailed away some distance and need to "go back".

I realize that with GPS, they can get locations pretty good these days, but still... the person isn't going to stay in that exact place, with water movement, etc.

Also, if they can't note the *exact* time of going overboard (as if there were some sensor), then how accurate/helpful can the GPS be in this case?

The old ‘King of the World’ routine! Anyway, she’s very fortunate that the sharks in the Adriatic are teetotal.

Please feel free to document that ridiculous assertion. The woman in this story has been interviewed and says nothing of the sort. Thanks for the laugh.

Let "GinBoy" tell us.

I guess you missed the first part of GinBoy's post where he said "Although it doesn't seem to be the case here..." which is an assertion that he is speaking in a general sense, and not on this particular story.

I didn't miss anything. His comment is irresponsible. Why bring up something totally unrelated - and unfounded - unless you have an agenda?

The ship still hasn't left Venice. It was due to leave at 5pm and it is now 9pm. Passengers are still boarding- my mum and dad included. They are very tired as they got up at 2am to drive to get their flight. I hope they get on soon!

What was her story? How did it happen?

Since the woman has not claimed to have been thrown overboard by another person and since it is impossible to accidentally fall off a cruise ship that leaves two possibilities. #1) she was drunk and got the goofy idea to do a titanic pose from the top of the railing or #2) she intentionally jumped from the cruise ship as a suicide attempt but after hitting the water changed her mind and vigorously treaded water until rescued. If she was drunk enough to do something that crazy then she probably would not have survived being in the water for 10 hours as people are more susceptible to hypothermia after drinking alcohol. So the authorities need to have her evaluated by a psychiatrist because she may still be actively suicidal despite her change of mind in the water!

Star has just announced Bar, Montenegro as her next stop according to MarineTraffic. 22-23 knots needed if she departs immediatedly and wants to arrive there at 4 p.m. (arrival time at this port last year on their first ever stop there).

UPD: okay, they added the arrival time at the local pilot of 18:15 (!). Seems like they want to stay there only for the evening.

In the video interview, the lady started to say how it happened, but a man stopped her and had her follow him. Hopefully they’ll figure out what happened because from the bit she did share, she was sitting on the back of the deck. You can’t fall that way.

If the police are involved it is unlikely they want the details out in the media until after they complete their investigation.

Ok, I will say it and Sorry to sound cold but I don’t waste my sorrow in people like this. It is IMPOSSIBLE to “fall” overboard unless you either want to or are being an idiot. There are plenty of other sad things in the world for me to concern myself about

Been headlines on UK news and the woman keeps mentioning Norwegian Star!! It is impossible to fall off a ship agreed.

Looking at her after 10 hours in the water and not wishing her harm thee is something not right with this story.

I may be a suspicious person but I smell a claim or what happened is not quite as she want us to believe.

Indeed she seems more concerned about the publicity than the waiting ambulance. She was stopped from recounting her version of events.

This is just my view but watch this space - there is more to come!!!

Just seen the lady as the main story on BBC news. Sorry her appearance doesn’t give the impression she had spent 10 hours in the water! Unless, of course, the coast guard boat had a wardrobe of clothes and make up for her to change into!

Exactly well said - this story is looking very odd indeed.

Now we have the jury we need to appoint the judge. Who is going to be the hangman............ for god sake !

What are you on. Read the press reports even they are now smelling a bigger story or because she said it- it must be true.

Read what I said it a view from me not anything else. Glad though you feel the need to comment a great sign that there is an arguable case :)

I was on the Star recently and spent quite a long time on that Deck 7 Aft area while we were transitting in and out of Kotor and if this lady departed the ship there it was definitely not an accidental fall. There are no chairs and the side rails are much more than waste high. The rails round the aft loop are even higher and are chest high. Additionally, there is CCTV cover all round, so NCL should know exactly what happened from recordings, even though they clearly did not see anything live, otherwise they would have turned back immediately.

This story is probably only going to come out if NCL have evidence of unauthorised action that could be subject of a claim one way or the other.

I hope they don’t publish her name otherwise certainly will be the hangman..

You seem to be in a minority Mickey89. Her name see tomorrows press

.

You do not seem to be able to accept that with all events there is more than meets the eye.

Thank you for highlighting my screen name much appreciated. I suggest before you come down on one side or another you wait for the truth. If you want to know why there is a question mark is the news feeds. The news only mentions "cruise ship". The woman and the woman alone keeps mentioning N Star.

Watch her body language all she wants is the press when she gets off and it is the officials that have to stop her telling her story.

As much as you can not accept it there is already a large pool of folk who are questioning the events of last night.

BTW I was not the first to question her version of events give the others a mention as well? I think you will find "old nutter" also agrees now.

You see if she was intoxicated she would probably not have survived 10 hours in the sea.

Lets wait but NCL may be the only people that get to know the truth its on video.
