acestacy Posted January 9, 2006 #1 Share Posted January 9, 2006 We're doing the Mexican Riviera thing in a week--travellers are cautioned not to bring twenty dollar bills as they aren't the favored currency. Travellers are also told to book individual shore excursions to save a buck. So many of these excursions are close to $100 and above. So, are we to pay for those in 1's, 5's and 10's or am I just taking things too literal up in here?
PurpleCow Posted January 9, 2006 #2 Share Posted January 9, 2006 Perhaps you're expected to pay for your excursions in the local currency?
clackey Posted January 9, 2006 #3 Share Posted January 9, 2006 Hola, I've never had problems with $20 bills on tours, but you need a lot of small bills for goodies like drinks, taxis, and small purchases. As for local currency, the only place that we have found where they wanted pesos, was in a small out-of-the-way store in Progreso. We were so far off of the beaten track that there wasn't an American in sight and not a word of English spoken. It was great. I bought the Mrs. a pair of sweats for $80 pesos. That's $8 U.S.! I once told a merchant in spanish that I had no money. "It's no problem, Senior," he said in English," We take plastic.":p
acestacy Posted January 9, 2006 Author #4 Share Posted January 9, 2006 Senor Clackey, Thanks mucho for your input. I knew the incidentals would eat the small bills, just couldn't figure out the big ticket stuff. Thanks again.
