dbdb Posted August 30, 2018 #1 Share Posted August 30, 2018 Going with a family of 6 people soon, and two of them got the promotion for the 3-meal specialty dining package. Weighing out whether we should get the remaining 4 people the packages as well considering we'll be eating the meals together. Does anyone have an estimated amount of savings by doing so before boarding vs paying the a la carte prices? That is, perhaps an estimated adult meal at a specialty dining venue and how that compares to the ~$23 value of the SDP. Would just like to understand if its ones, tens, or hundreds in savings! GA Dave Posted August 30, 2018 #2 Share Posted August 30, 2018 Best thing to do would be go through the menus on Bird's thread listed below and add up what you think each person would normally order. https://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2666700
Rare BirdTravels Posted August 30, 2018 #3 Share Posted August 30, 2018 A couple of weeks ago on the Getaway (reference link above), the ship was selling the 3-meal package onboard for $94.80 (which includes the 20% gratuity). That is greater than the cost they currently have advertised on their website. That being said, all of our meals were [a lot] more than the $31.69 average price of the package ($94.80 / 3). Our most expensive meal was over $75 per person,,, all paid for by the SDP.
FLAHAM Posted August 30, 2018 #4 Share Posted August 30, 2018 If you're eating full meals, the package is nearly always cheaper than paying menu price for each meal.
Two Wheels Only Posted August 30, 2018 #5 Share Posted August 30, 2018 Buying a 3SDP for each online is the best option. It is $10 less per package if purchased online. However, if using OBC instead of real money, it's better to purchase on the ship. Going a la carte only makes sense if the 4 without don't eat together with the 2 that have the 3SDP. Using a SDP to cover a meal is almost always less expensive than a meal a la carte.
