Moorea Tender Port

There are actually two tender areas and if more than one ship is at Moorea each will usually use a different one. It really should not matter because if you set up a private excursion all of the companies will know where you will tender to and will meet you there.

In Moorea only one port has an entrance that can handle a ship the size of the Emerald or a Grand class ship.

Actually large ships weather permitting can enter either bay. Each tender location has been renovated over the last 2 years. Cooks bay tender location is slightly closer the where ships usually anchor. The reef entrance for Opunohu is slightly deeper so when weather is a bit rough larger ships prefer this entrance.

I actually seen a 100000 ton ship turn around when the weather was rough. Low tide, heavy seas the entrance is not as deep. That is the nice thing about smaller ships like the Paul Gauguin ... made for the shallow waters of French Polynesia.
