inurdreams2379 Posted September 3, 2018 #1 Share Posted September 3, 2018 I’m hoping to take a cruise in December on the Valor to Cozumel and Progresso leaving from Galveston, can anyone help me out with what the weather is like in those ports that time of year? Victory.Feb.29,2008. Posted September 3, 2018 #3 Share Posted September 3, 2018 Almost always go in the winter say Dec. to Feb. and never had weather issues. About 80's area
Shaded Lady Posted September 3, 2018 #4 Share Posted September 3, 2018 I've found that winters in those ports are quite similar to South Florida- it can be cool, even occasionally downright cold, it can also occasionally be quite hot, but most of the time it's a nice, seasonable shirtsleeves weather (60's and 70's). If you're from the north, the water is warm enough for swimming. If you're from the south, save it for the hot tub LOL!!!
Quilcruisers Posted September 3, 2018 #5 Share Posted September 3, 2018 We cruised last Thanksgiving day on the valor and it was cold (for us native Houstonians) that day, sweaters and jackets, but the next day, back to normal cruise wear. Once we hit cozumel that Saturday it was very very hot and sunny. Again that Sunday night coming back it was bone chilling cold on the decks at night but I think we were coming into a storm. GradUT Posted September 3, 2018 #6 Share Posted September 3, 2018 We did a Christmas cruise out of Houston a few years ago that stopped in Belize, Roatan and Cozumel. It was shorts in Belize and suimsuits (for snorkeling) in Roatan and swimsuits (for a beach day) in Cozumel.
cb at sea Posted September 3, 2018 #7 Share Posted September 3, 2018 Once you get to the Caribbean or Southern Gulf, it's summer year round. Your home port will suffer with whatever weather the continental US gives you....can be quite chilly in Dec!

You must be talking about the Bahamas as the Caribbean rarely, if ever, gets into the 60's. Anywhere below 18 degrees, Virgin Islands, it will be warm to hot. We lived on and off in St. Thomas and you can and will roast in January. Same with Cozumel and Tulum, it is hot.
DD fun Posted September 3, 2018 #9 Share Posted September 3, 2018 We always go in Dec. and the weather has always been great. Also the water is much calmer so less movement of the ship. Another bonus is you are outside of hurricane season. Enjoy
inurdreams2379 Posted September 4, 2018 Author #10 Share Posted September 4, 2018 Thanks everyone for the quick responses. So I should plan on dressing warm on days were in Galveston and dress in normal cruise wear for days at sea and in ports. Correct??

o-state girl Posted September 4, 2018 #13 Share Posted September 4, 2018 I have taken several cruises out of Galveston and New Orleans during the winter. Generally, the weather after the first day is nice and warm, but I always pack a sweater or a light jacket just in case we have a chilly evening. Bookish Angel Posted September 6, 2018 #14 Share Posted September 6, 2018 We only go to the Caribbean in the winter as I cannot take the heat of summer and fall there. The weather and water temps are perfect for us with generally blue skies.
