We’ve just booked our first Princess cruise in Jan from Singapore. We have previously cruised with Royal Caribbean and wondered if anyone can give us details of the drinks package options also can you take alcohol on board or is it taken off you and returned at the end.

We are sailing on Sapphire Princess and would appreciate any tips.

Other than wine, you are not allowed to bring any alcohol on board. You can buy bottles off the web site (or possibly room service) and have them delivered to your room - around $17-23 per 375ml bottle.

The drink package (with alcohol) includes anything that you can drink that costs under $12 per serving (about 99% of what is offered). It costs about $68 per day. It is limited to 15 alcoholic drinks, unlimited non-alcoholic ones per day.

The soda package includes only soda and mocktails -- no bottled water. It costs about $8 per day.

The one free bottle of wine per adult is only good in the home port. You may be able to bring another on in the visited ports, but YMMV - per the rules they would hold on to it until the night before debarkation.

here is the policy from the passage contract

"Guests agree not to bring alcoholic beverages of any kind on board for consumption except one bottle of wine or champagne per person of drinking age (no larger than 750 ml) per voyage only in his/her carry-on luggage. A corkage fee of $15.00 U.S.D. per bottle (which is subject to change without notice) will be applied to wine and champagne brought aboard by You and consumed in the ship's public areas. Any wine(s) or champagne(s) supplied by the Carrier to You as a gift are not subject to a corkage fee. At embarkation, all luggage is subject to scanning and any contraband, including alcohol in excess of the allowed amount, will be removed and discarded. You may be required to attend an inspection if your luggage is locked. Carrier shall not be responsible for any loss, cost, disappointment or damage of any kind as a result of any contraband or alcoholic beverages removed in violation of the one bottle policy. You agree to surrender alcoholic beverages that are purchased duty free from the ship's gift shop, or at ports of call, to Carrier, which will be delivered to Your stateroom on the last night of the voyage."

Notes regarding wine: On embarkation each passenger 21 and over is allowed one bottle without charge for use in the cabin. If you bring this bottle to any public area you are subject to the $15 corkage. Many people pour the wine and then carry the glass. You can bring on as many additional bottles of wine as you wish. Each bottle will be charged the $15 corkage and will be stickered. These bottles can be used anywhere on the ship.

At many ports of call the review process is not very through, and thus many times additional bottles are not charged corkage. Spirits and beer are not allowed at any time.
