I'm/we're with ya op. besides ya wouldn't want to do a road trip with me if ya ever saw me drive. Leaving the driving to someone else is our forte. Waking in a new port is exciting (with some golf thrown in) even if we have been there before. Meeting people, making new friends and exploring. Fun on the ship great food, drinks and entertainment. A quite nook on sea day's with the one I love. Life's too short to sweat the small stuff. Live, Love and Laugh ...a lot ! ya never know when your time up so fill it with memories.

What a fun thread, I have only sailed NCL, except for a Hawaii cruise in the late 1990s.

Cruising is easy, unpack once see several places. Eat well and with ease. Have fun onboard and your choice of excursions: sight seeing, adventure, beach, cultural, etc.

I sail both solo and with my small multi-generational family. My mother and I do some things together and separate and my teen nephew LOVES the teen club and sense of independence he gets onboard (except that first cruise when he decided to ignore curfew).

Unplug, laptop or work onboard. I admit I may check email once in port, but essentially I leave work behind.

I'm also the vacation planner in the family and enjoy that process too.

No cooking, no cleaning, no having to plan out meals.

Can sit by the pool all day and do nothing if I want to.

Going to places I have never been, even though running out of places in the Carib.

Trying different foods that I would never get at home.

The warmth of the Caribbean in the winter time when we have 3 foot of snow at home.:D

As a mom, and the vacation planner for my family, it is the easiest vacation option for me. As others have said, planning a land vacation is stressful - having to find a place (or places) to stay that make everyone happy, researching restaurants and activities...by the time I'm finished, it's hard for me to enjoy the vacation and completely relax. On a cruise everything is there - you unpack once and pick from a list of pre-determined activities and existing dining options. There's something for everyone.

That said, we don't cruise every year - we do alternate with land vacations (here in the U.S. because I want my children to see their own country, outside of our state), but cruising is the most relaxing for ME.

I will say that I am awesome at planning our land vacations - my favorite to date was a leisurely jaunt from Seattle to San Francisco along the PCH (breathtakingly beautiful scenery - especially along the Oregon coast!)

I've been thinking about this for a while and for me I think it comes down to what a few others have said "It's easy". This is especially true because we don't plan too far in advance. I think we booked Bliss 6 weeks out and that was an eternity for us.

I cruise because I am lazy, I hate to work, shop, cook, clean, do dishes, etc... I like to be on the move to see new lands. The only draw back is time in port. I enjoy staying overnight in a port, it really gives you the time to explore an area. However overnights are a small percentage of ports.

The ocean. No cooking, no cleaning, no driving and packing/unpacking to see multiple places. The ocean. Entertainment, restaurants, bars, activities all within walking distance. The ocean. The price and ease of planning/booking. The ocean. Coming home completely relaxed and not needing a vacation from my vacation. The ocean.

We started cruising for one reason. My DH's work phone doesn't work on board!! After a few Disney trips where he told work calls more then activities, I booked a cruise.

DH is also a diver so the cruise let's him dive and me take the kids somewhere else pretty easily. So it has worked out.

I love this post! People ask us the same...why do we cruise all the time. We cruise twice a year....and have not done many land based vacations. I'm a mom of three boys....with all very different personalities and very very active. A cruise fits the bill for them! They absolutely love it. They are 10,10,9 and don't really have an interest in sightseeing! They are all happy on a cruise ship!

Parents: There is nothing more peaceful in life then having your morning tea/coffee on the ocean and reading your favorite book! Love the motion of the ocean....its the best sleep i get! We enjoy the casino onboard and the various bars. We sail for the ship not the ports now. LOVE SEA DAYS! We used to get caught up in doing all the activities onboard and looking at the schedule....now we just do what we want and rarely look at the schedule. We used to feel like we were missing out...but now we can just sit and enjoy looking out at the ocean and appreciate its beauty. I do want to see the world but at this point in my life this works for our family and we all have fun!

Cruising is my happy, relaxing place. I don't have to worry about things at home. I can't do anything about them. There is so little planning involved. I enjoy the ship. Most ports I can take or leave but it doesn't matter.

Normal days are leading my team, coming home, splitting home stuff with dw, rinse, repeat.

Cruise vacations have everything right there and the where changes every day or so. Our family can go at each of our own speeds, be able to spend time together and alone. Some days it’s nice to sit and watch the world go by with a drink in your hand. Other days it’s fun to enjoy the mayhem of a port day. Food, is there really any other comparison for ease, access and choice? Nothing short of a private chef, which sounds nice btw (never know when dw will read this and say “great idea,,,, let’s do it”).

Fun of cruising starts early with the planning. That’s usually me, but everyone can be involved with excursion, dining, room choice and activity selection. With the advent of YouTube, we can involve the teen daughter on exploring choices and bond over the epic cruise fails. Yelling “run Forrest run” has new meaning when the ships horns blow and the pier moves away.

And then there is the cruise butler. This makes leading teams of the millennial generation worth it. I have never had such a relaxing vacation than the last cruise with a butler. I haven’t found another vacation yet that can come with one of those as a choice.

I had to be drug on my first cruise by my wife, lifelong avid cruiser, for a 6 day sailing on Carnival.

I preferred all inclusive resorts at the time.

but...hitting three countries in a week was pretty awesome. I didn't hate the tiny accommodations at all and kinda liked exploring the ship on sea days.

nowadays I like not having WiFi onboard and totally decompressing. I still prefer port days to sea days but I've come to love most aspects of cruising. I even enjoy people watching at the art auctions and the ship's buffet, things I historically didn't care for much.

I really like being on the water foremost- I enjoy also going to different ports (just got back from Canada/NE this morning) ans seeing new museums, additional boat rides. I also like the variety of different foods and trying new drinks. its a lot of prep time planning but worth it in the end
