Punam Posted September 28, 2018 #1 Share Posted September 28, 2018 We'd like to spend 2 nights there prior to boarding the ship. Does anyone know of a hotel that's in a good part of the city such that we could walk around the evening we arrive before taking a tour the following day - and is not really far from the port? We just returned from a Western Med cruise out of Barcelona. We stayed at the Le Meridian Barcelona. It is located right on Las Ramblas and was a 10 Euro cab ride to the port. Short walk to the Gothic Quarter and Born Neighborhood for great restaurants and fun nightlife. The Barcelona Metro is just one block away.

Rare Lady Arwen Posted September 28, 2018 #8 Share Posted September 28, 2018 H10 Catalunya Plaza Boutique Hotel. Right across from the central plaza Catalunya, short walk to Las Ramblas, restaurants and cafes right outside the door. The bus stop is right in front of the hotel as is the airport shuttle bus, which is direct from the airport to Catalunya Plaza. No need to take a cab from the airport, as the buses (totally equipped for luggage) run every 5 minutes. Very modern, clean rooms with the entrance right on the street, not up a dark alley. Very nice restaurant. H10 hotels are very reputable.

kikki21 Posted September 28, 2018 #11 Share Posted September 28, 2018 Hotel Barcelona Cathedral - very close to the Cathedral & a very lively square. Always something going on there from Markets, to opera singers to folk concerts! Close to great shopping & restaurants. The Gothic Quarter in your doorstep & close to Las Ramblas & the Port. We got a taxi for ease of just getting ourselves & cases to the port. Sent from my iPhone using Forums

lisaten98 Posted September 29, 2018 #17 Share Posted September 29, 2018 Hotel Jazz. Our plane arrived at 6:30am and we got to the hotel at 8am. They let us have our room right away so we to nap before exploring. Helped immensely with jetlag

rotoal Posted September 29, 2018 #19 Share Posted September 29, 2018 We've stayed at the Hotel Regencia Colon a couple of times, it is in the Gothic Quarter, a block from the Barcelona Cathedral, and very reasonable priced. This is not a handicapped accessible hotel. There are a few steps once inside the front door. We once had a taxi driver tell us that we had to walk the last block because he couldn't get to the front door. If/when we stay in Barcelona in the future, I think we may stay in the more upscale Hotel Colon, which faces the Cathedral and probably has larger, nicer rooms. Rare Lady Arwen Posted September 29, 2018 #20 Share Posted September 29, 2018 The important thing to take into consideration is the location of the front door of the hotel. Many hotels in Barcelona require you to walk down a narrow alley to access the front door and taxis cannot take you to the door as it's not allowed. Always check to make sure that your hotel of choice is facing the street and is easily accessible by foot or cab. Nothing is worse than trying to walk down a dark alley at night to get back to your hotel.

suekay Posted September 29, 2018 #22 Share Posted September 29, 2018 Another vote for hotel Lleo just round the corner from Las Ramblas. Lower end of budget compared to other. Check in is strictly 3pm but they had luggage storage and allowed us to use the rooftop pool while waiting. Alternatively Hotel Continental balcony rooms to people watch on Las Rambles (can be noisy at night)
Bruin Steve Posted September 29, 2018 #23 Share Posted September 29, 2018 We'd like to spend 2 nights there prior to boarding the ship. Does anyone know of a hotel that's in a good part of the city such that we could walk around the evening we arrive before taking a tour the following day - and is not really far from the port? Having stayed in Barcelona multiple nights several times now...and in different parts of the city, my best advice is this: Stay as close as possible to the Placa Catalunya...This is the main square at the "head" of Las Ramblas--Barcelona's famous pedestrian promenade...and the hub of every sort of transportation system and center of nightlife...La Ramblas and the Placa are abuzz with activity well into the night. There is a very large El Corte Ingles Department Store on the East side of the Placa with a great supermarket in the basement to buy all of the drinks and snacks you may want...Most of the main tourist sites (Las Ramblas, the Market, the Barri Gotic (with the old cathedral, the old Jewish Calle with its ancient synagogue and the Museo Picasso), Gaudi's Casa Mila and Casa Batllo, and more are all in very short walking distance and it is an easy and simple trip to Parc Guell and to La Sagrada Familia... We have stayed a couple of times now in the quirky Hotel Continental. An incredible location just off the Placa and right on Las Ramblas--with great balconies overlooking Las Ramblas...24 hour free buffet with free beer and bad wine...tacky decor...but you cannot beat the location...or the price... Last visit, we went more upscale and stayed at the 1898--just across Las Ramblas and a few doors down...VERY nice hotel with very comfortable rooms. Depending on your budget and desires, I would recommend either hotel. Le Meridian is in the same general area and is also a very nice hotel. http://www.hotel1898.com/en/ https://www.hotelcontinental.com/hotel-continental-barcelona/en/default.html
