Day 3:

Georgetown, Grand Cayman

Dominic brought our breakfast right on schedule and when we finished we rushed to the Equinox theater to await our departure time for our excursion. We were there a few minutes early, but the excursion crew were so efficient that we were called to depart as soon as we got there.

This was my 3rd time in Grand Cayman and my DH’s 2nd time. We had signed up for the stingray city and barrier reef excursion. I had done this about 25 years ago but when we went there about 10 years ago DH was unsure about it. This time he was up for it. We weren’t disappointed. This was an excellent excursion. Our guides were very informative and knowledgeable. I learned so much more about these fascinating creatures than I did during my experience 25 years ago. They took lots of pictures and we happily purchased them.

Such beautiful waters. I’d love to do a reef and wreck snorkel next time. The only downside to this island is that our American money doesn’t go as far with the exchange rate as it is a British territory.

When we were there last Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville was under construction so we knew that was where we would have lunch. DH started with the pork tacos and I had boom boom shrimp for appetizers and we both had cheeseburgers in honor of the Buffett song “Cheeseburger in Paradise “. All was very filling and delicious.

After we shopped for a bit, we returned to the ship to enjoy our canapés and rest.

We went to Michael’s club for a drink before heading out for the evening. We stayed with our plan from the first two nights and went to the show before dinner. Wow, what a show! The show this evening was Uptown, a trio of singers who performed a tribute to Motown. Absolutely fantastic. After the show we went to Luminae for another superb dinner and service.

Following dinner DH wasn’t feeling up to par so he retired to the stateroom and I joined our friends in the theater for The Wedding Games. After a nightcap I headed off to bed to rest up for another day of fun. 4c974365466688cc1ae38fe24b4a861c.jpgfdbae4c3e049b627fbae1478f8a3889f.jpged9fbd8a9d3b819483761bbcf88c2947.jpg011448603f6df9129b0ac583214d10d8.jpgf03213b28d424bb4fe9c55151d2eb897.jpg

I love the dress you wore for Evening Chic night! We are sailing on the Summit in a few weeks and I am thinking about this cruise you took for next year. We haven't sailed on Celebrity since they started Evening Chic so I was worried about what style of dress women were wearing. I have a few similar to yours, so now I have that dilemma settled!!

Thanks so much. You can dress up or just do a simple dress or even designer jeans according to their website. I saw many dressed up and many in jeans too. More dressed up I think. Others on the cruise may wish to weigh in here. You will love both the Summit and the Equinox. The Summit was our first with Celebrity and we loved it. The Equinox is even better in my opinion. We’ve done many Eastern and Western Caribbean cruises but I think the Southern itinerary is our new favorite.

I’m really enjoying your review and pictures! Keep them coming! I also love that dress. Glad to see folks dressing up even though there’s no official formal night. You two are adorable!

Thanks so much. I really appreciate that. I’ve been tied up for the last 2 days so will post more later today. [emoji6]

Day 4 - At Sea

On our 2nd day at sea we slept in and then had our customary balcony breakfast impeccably served by Dominic as always. The captain made her daily announcement of ship’s location and interesting factoids pertaining to either seafaring or ports of call. She also would give us her daily riddle to solve along with her Confucius quotes. Today she announced our location as “We’re in the Caribbean Sea!”. I love the sense of humor the Celebrity captains possess. After the required pause for effect she gave us our exact latitude and longitude location along with our ship’s speed. She said our weather forecast was sunny mixed with some liquid sunshine.

Once we had refueled and dressed, we headed out to enjoy a relaxing day at sea. We started out at the shops for souvenirs. DH loves his ball caps and t- shirts and also adding to his ever-growing coffee mug collection as well as his watch collection. I found a few t-shirts and keychains. Now time to explore more of the ship.

We gravitated back to Cafe a’ Bacio for espressos for DH and a cappuccino for me. Captain Kate was there again serving specialty coffees and pastries. As we were enjoying our coffees and perusing our daily Celebrity planner we noticed the captain had joined a group of female passengers for tea in the chairs next to us.

We decided to continue exploring our ship. As we passed by the main promenade I stopped to watch the archery tournament of officers vs. guests. Some of the passengers were quite good. We checked out the rest of the decks starting from decks 3-15 to get our daily steps in on our respective exercise recording devices. Now it was time for some lunch and pool time.

We opted for burgers and French fries at the Mast Grill. These were pretty good and definitely filling. We topped lunch off with ice cream, of course. Now that we were in a sufficient food coma we decided to lie by the solarium pool as it’s quiet and relaxing. We napped in our deck chairs and then took quick dips in the pool to refresh ourselves.

Day 4 continued:

We had dinner reservations at Murano, one of the specialty restaurants onboard. We’d heard from previous threads that this was the best restaurant on the ship. We had requested our butler to arrange a cocktail party in our stateroom before we went out to dinner. Dominic didn’t disappoint us. He was right on time to deliver our canapés and shrimp cocktail. He also had the welcome aboard champagne chilled and on ice. Once he had setup the hors d’oeuvres, he opened the bottle and served each of us. I know I may have said this before, but Dominic couldn’t have done a better job as our butler. He was outstanding.

Having finished our champagne and hors d’oeuvres, we headed down to the evening show. Dominic met us on deck 5 to escort us to reserved seats. This is another perk for suite guests. I will admit that with the normal price for a suite, we could take 2 cruises. We probably will only book a suite in the future if it’s a special occasion or we get a deal. That being said, it will make it difficult to sail anything less in the future. [emoji23][emoji22]

The show for the evening was Synergy. Synergy is a violin duo and they’re twins. These very talented young men were previous contestants on America’s Got Talent, I believe. They said they were rejected. I can’t imagine what talent acts beat them as they were wonderful. They played all sorts of genres of music. I think I can speak for all of our group to say that we really enjoyed them.

Before dinner, we had arranged to have our friends join us for a cocktail in Michael’s club. While our friends weren’t suite guests, Aveline, our suite concierge, had okayed it for them to join us for the evening. Aveline was always so welcoming and helpful. There was never a hint of pretentiousness about her.

Dinner at Murano was as delicious as we had heard. DH had the venison, I was tempted but went with the filet mignon, Mary had lobster tail, and our friend Cindi had the special lobster flambé dinner. Murano is known for its tableside cooking, and Cindi’s dinner was the only entree of our 4 dinner orders that was prepared tableside. Our waiter did the cooking of her entree. All 4 of our meals were superb, though after trying my DH’s venison, I wished I had ordered that.

Following dinner, we each ordered dessert. I can’t even remember what we had as they brought out the special chocolate cake we had ordered weeks before the cruise. DH and I had completely forgotten that we asked for this to be delivered this evening, for if we had, we never would have ordered dessert. [emoji15]They wished us a very happy anniversary.

Now I must give you the back story on this. Two years ago we sailed with a large group of friends on RCI’s Allure of the Seas. That time it was our anniversary, and we had preordered an anniversary chocolate cake. It was the absolute best cake we had ever had, and we joked that had we known how good it was, we wouldn’t have shared it with our friends! Since RCI is the parent company of Celebrity, we thought we’d order the anniversary cake from them in hopes it would be the same cake. It wasn’t our anniversary, but we told them it was. Hard to believe, but this cake was even better and much larger. Now here we are stuffed to the gills, but we had to eat this sumptuous cake. Our waiter offered to box up the remaining cake to take to our stateroom. DH told him to share the rest with the other diners in the restaurant. Such was the size of this cake. We had some after dinner cordials and then we all retired for the night. Tomorrow we would arrive in Aruba. 06b6dd340ed83d84b5768958041c5e6a.jpeg7e45b901e47f740172eb5baa5c61b705.jpg90c3b48dd682e8731ae5643a37153098.jpg2917a3432bfc09d1fc4aafe4d1fe9c93.jpeg479df904ac57f0dfdd0d66514015cd86.jpg

Thank you for your wonderful review. That cake looks so delicious! We leave next week on the Equinox and I’m keeping my fingers crossed for Dominic as our last Butler was such a disappointment, it would be so nice to be treated as you have been!

OP -- Did Dominic by chance tell you when his contract is up? He has been our Butler twice in the past and we will be on Equinox in December -- hoping he's still on the ship!

I’m not sure when his contract is up but we mentioned sailing again next September and he said he would be on the Equinox then.
