Has anyone ever stayed in this hotel? It looks fairly nice and seems to be in a good area. Hoping someone might have had an experience there. We're staying in BA for a night before beginning our Buenos Aires to Santiago cruise so are hotel searching.

The Alvear Palace Hotel. I stayed there in February. VeryNice hotel. You might want to spend two days before, you get on the ship. Unlessyou sleep good on the airplane. Your first day you will be pretty tired.

My ship was overnighting, so you can go out the next day ifneeded.

Getting through the airport takes some time, collectingbaggage and going through customs. If you are taking a taxi to the hotel, easyto find the taxi stand. I just handed the lady a paper with the address ofwhere I wanted to go. Then a guy escorts you to the taxi helping you with yourluggage. Have some pesos with you so you can tip him, he expects it. Also, forthe driver.

There is a restaurant on the first floor. They do have roomservice, very nice, they wheel your dinner in on a cart, that doubles as thetable. The food was very good. The staff, I found, to be very nice. They havesecurity in the lobby. Nice lounge on the roof with good views. The cemeterywhere Eva Peron is, is within walking distance. Mind your jewelry if you go out sightseeing. Iwas wearing my watch before going to the cruise port. I was going to stepoutside for a few minutes while waiting for the taxi. I took it off and put itin my pocket. The security guard stopped me before going out the door. He hadseen that I had a watch on, but did not see me put it in my pocket. He wantedto warn to do so.

The hotel can arrange for a taxi, to get you to the cruiseport, when you leave. Did not take long to get on the ship after the taxidropped me off. Prior to getting on the ship, they will take your passport forthe trip. You will get it back before you arrive in Santiago.

If I ever make it back to BA, I will be staying here again.

Enjoy your cruise.

Just to clarify something the other poster wrote. The Alvear Palace Hotel is not the same as the Alvear Art Hotel, which I do not know anything about. The Alvear Palace Hotel is an elegant, traditional hotel in the Recoleta District. Not cheap.

Hope this helps before you book it thinking it is the same as the Alvear Palace.

Thank you.  I immediately knew Greg4502 was not referring to the same hotel I am asking about.  The Alvear Art is part of the same chain as the Palace.  Since it is a newer hotel The Art seems to be often mistaken for the Palace by taxi drivers.  I am still hoping someone may have had some experience there.
