Denali land packages from Anchorage

Hello all,

I'm looking for a land package that will depart/return from Anchorage and on through to Denali with three nights lodging in the park.   I've looked into the Gray Line but they really only have 1-2 nights in Denali or overnights "Close to Denali" in Talkeetna.    Anyone have any recommendations for a one of these packages on a domed railcar and not a bus?

Thanks,

Darren

Would you be open to renting a car and driving yourself? Then you are in complete control of your schedule.

The Alaska Railroad offers packages as does Princess Lodges.  Just go to their web sites for info.

Also, Alaska Tour and Travel run the main bus service but they also do pkg trips using the train and/or bus.

I'm sure any of them can customize a simple Denali trip if you give them a call.

See if it's cheaper to arrange it yourself.  Reserve the train then book 3 nights at Princess Lodge.  If you stay at the Lodge you can use their shuttle between the depot and lodge and between lodge and park entrance. Beyond that the only reservations you need are for the bus within the park.

Just FYI, the train trip between Anchorage and Denali is excruciatingly long and not terribly scenic.  The train is very slow.  The road north (there's only one, so you can't get lost) parallels the train almost the whole way.  You have a lot more flexibility with a car and save quite a bit of money over the train fares.

Once you get out of the Anchorage area, there is very little traffic and lots of places to stop where everyone can enjoy the views and amenities.

You can book all of this on your own. It is not difficult, and that way make sure you get on the trains that you want and have as long as you want in Denali. The train is long, but for the most part is very scenic. Plan on it taking a day each way.

We used Alaska Railroad to arrange our land trip to Denali last year. Like you, we knew we wanted to go on the railroad, and it was a fabulous trip. It was so relaxing and the time flew by. If you choose Gold Star accommodations, breakfast and lunch are provided in the dining room and two alcoholic beverages are included. Alaska Railroad also arranged for our hotel in Anchorage and the Grande Denali Lodge in Denali, which was perfect. Hotels like the Grande Denali Lodge provide all the transportation you might need to get into the Park.
