DIY or shore excursion in Genoa

Arriving Nov 4 in Genoa on board the Crown Princess.  need advise either  DIY  or the best shore excursion from the port of Genoa.  Suggestions  are greatly appreciated

Group of 4 adults were in Genoa in September.  We took a Segway Tour.  (Not through the cruise line.).  We had a blast and saw a lot of Genoa.  We walked from the ship to the meeting point.  Took about 15 minutes.

We were there in August and had a very long port day.   We did DIY and took a train to Santa Margarita and then took the long walk to Portofino.  Had lunch there then took the ferry back to Santa Margarita and eventually the train back to Genoa.   Very beautiful area. Other than an expensive lunch it was a very inexpensive day and easy to do.

If you can walk DT is only 15 min walk from port. We just spend the day walking around and eating local food)

 Santa Maria Ligure doesn't need a guide. There are frequent trains to there from Genova Piazza Principe train station only ten minutes walk from the cruise port. And buses and boats from SML to Portofino.

Did exactly the same thing and highly recommend it.  The walk from Santa M to Portofino is pleasant and basically flat along the water.  We did it only with stops for photos but there are multiple places along the way you could stop for a drink or snack.  After some touring and shopping in Portofino we stopped for lunch prior to taking the ferry back to SM.  Still had time to wander a bit in SM before catching the train to Genoa.  Short jaunt between port and train station in Genoa.
