Stone Island Mazatlan on our own

I've heard lots of people say we can do Stone Island on our own - just take a water taxi. But can someone tell me exactly where to go to get a water taxi? How much does it cost? Do they accept US cash or do we need to exchange money?

Once on Stone Island, do the restaurants there take US cash/credit cards? Are there public beaches or do we need to buy from one of the restaurants in order to use the beach? Is the water safe to go into? Can we snorkel there (we have our own gear)? Are there any kayak rental places?

I know...so many questions. But isn't that what all you fine folks on CC are for? :classic_biggrin:

HI,

I am posting an old thread with info about this. Scroll down to see a map of where to walk to get the water taxi.

Basically you get off the ship and there will be a people mover to take you from the ship to the exit of the port area.

Turn left and you will find volunteers who speak English (they are Canadian or American expats or folks who spend winter in Mazatlan) and they will point you in the right direction.

Keep walking to the left and follow the map on this link. It's only a few blocks:

I just did this last year. it is very easy!

You get off the ship and take the shuttle to the shops, follow other passengers through the little plaza with shops. Step out onto the street, turn left. Follow the sidewalk all the way down to the end of the road and there is a parking lot at the end, a very slight left. About 1/2 mile.  It was 50 pesos per person, round trip. I paid in US Dollars so like 2.50 per person.

It was seriously our favorite port in Mexico. We found a great spot early in the morning. Had four lounge chair with umbrellas and ate and drank like kings and queens for 6 hours for a about 100.00 (4 of us). I also found it to be the best place to buy gifts for people. Way cheaper than cabo and pv. easier to get it back to the ship too.

I believe last year was the first in a long hiatis that cruise ships started going back to Mazatlan. We will see how much any of this has changed with more people going. I am hoping nothing changes. Would love to hear from anyone who has travel more recently.

This video was great. He videos himself taking the whole trip to the ferry.

Thanks for the cool video. Hadn't seen this one yet.. We'll be in Maz next month on Eurodam, and plan to visit Stone Island for sure!

One of our favorite things to do in Mazatlan!
