Gramwold.

Great will email today, thanks for info. I think I made a mistake and thought I read you were asking for 2 couples to join you on trip to HCM city, can't find message now!! It was with a local tour guide, so hope you didn't think I was rude saying we'd join you. Lol! Obviously someone else who was asking.

Hi Annie,

yes I'm very excited, can't wait to go! Are you travelling from Mancester too? See you soon on the deck, goodbye miserable weather, hello, sun!! Safe journey x

  • 3 weeks later...

Hi, going on a cruise here next month.  It says the ship arranges the visa for Cambodia but that you need a passport photo?   How does that work?

Also, has anyone done the trip from Marella Discovery to Langkawi cable car?  If you arrange it through the ship do you have enough time to go to the sky bridge?

Hi,

You will receive an envelope in your cabin containing the forms needed for all your ports of call and instructions for filling them out. Some of the forms, like the Cambodian visa forms, you must return to reception with your passport photo. The visa is then issued and added to your passport (which the ship keeps for the duration of your cruise, apart from Singapore where you have to take your passport ashore in port).

Everything is explained in the instruction leaflet, with a list of the ports and what you need to take ashore with you in each. The ship will give you a copy of your passport for the Thai ports and return/collect back your passport for Singapore.

It all seemed to work very smoothly, just a few people had to be chased to return their passport after returning to the ship in Singapore.

Sorry I can’t help with the ships tour in Langkawi, we only did the Kuala Lumpur on your own ship tour.

Yes, you’ll need one passport sized photo each as well as your passport.

The Kuala Lumpur on your own trip was fine, it took about 1hr 30mins to get there on the coach. We had a local guide on the coach who gave out maps and was happy to help with any questions about what to see or public transport once there. We were dropped off right outside the Patronus Towers and then had about 5 hours before we needed to meet the guide for the journey back to the ship.

We really liked the city and enjoy exploring on our own, so this was ideal for us, basically a coach transfer, with the city centre being so far from the port.

Hi Balibeach,

what time did you arrive and depart the petronas towers on your trip,

and also is there much to see in Sihanoukville as I am finding it difficult to find any worthwhile trips there,

thanks for any help you can give.

Redsails.

Hi Redsails,

We arrived at the Petronas towers at 10am and had to be back at the meeting point for 3pm.

In Sihanoukville none of the ship’s tours appealed so I ended up booking a tour with a local company in Sihanoukville before we left. I used Treasure Shianoukville Tours and paid $65 each for two of us to have a a 7-8 hour whistle stop tour of everything in the area with lunch. The itinerary is on their website, but included the Market, Waterfall, temples, local school and fishing village. We ended up being the only two people in the tour and our guide was great, a 3rd year university student who was really knowledgable about the area.

There are also plenty of Tuk Tuk tours and taxi guides just outside the port gates. I spoke to another couple who had gone on a Tuk Tuk tour and loved it. I think the roads would be too uneven for me to enjoy it though!!

To be honest it wasn’t my favourite port, it has a massive amount of construction going on from Chinese casinos/hotels which have dumped rubbish in the streets and damaged the roads. Also there is obviously a lot of poverty so be prepared to be approached by many children begging from you and people being much more persistent trying to sell tours than in other ports.

We had an great day and are enjoyed what we did on the tour but it wouldn’t be somewhere I would necessarily go back to.
