Boarding Pass

Hi, leaving on our first Viking cruise on Thursday. The other cruise lines we've been on have you print your boarding passes ahead of time.

I don't see any boarding pass to print with Viking. Are there any documents we need to check in? Thanks!

If you have preregistered a payment card, they don’t need to see it, and we had no

id photos taken either at cruise check in.

Interesting. DH and I accidentally switched cards. I assumed it was face recognition software that prevented us from being able to leave the ship until we each had our own cards to present as we exited.

Your photo was taken when you first boarded the ship at ship security.  Every time thereafter you could see that picture come up as you checked in/out if you wanted to look.  Crew knew what you looked like (for some of us that must have been scary for them).😎

I think they must now scan in the photo on the passport, there was absolutely no photography going on.

I love this!  We  have always hated having to stop for any pictures being taken as we are boarding, especially the ones standing in front of the gimmicky back drop. We've actually learning in recent years to just walk on by!  Stopping  for the  ID photo not as bad but just nice not to have to either.  Actually, knowing there will not be a photographer popping up everywhere is one thing that has drawn us to trying  Viking.

Our thoughts too!  In the old days on QE2 they had a photographer but he was very un obtrusive.  Always asked before taking shots of you in a deck chair, at dinner, dancing.  We bought quite a few (at reasonable cost).  When Carnival took over Cunard I was appalled to have the staged backdrop before being allowed on board. then every evening a different cheesy backdrop.  How about posing in front of Titanic's main staircase??  Ridiculous.  We love Viking Oceans for all the things they DON'T have.  It is really like taking a voyage on a real ship.  Keep up the good work Viking..

I also agree with Jim Avery, the pesky intrusive photographers are one of many things we do not like on mainstream cruise lines and why we are trying VO in 2020. One other big reason no smoke filled casinos you have to walk through!!

I am with you concerning the present day "photographers" on ships.  I was reminiscing about real photographers on QE2 in the '70s.  Very non intrusive.  Took shots you wanted and no others.  I especially dislike the staged photo op before you are allowed to board.  So happy Viking has none of that!

the 'arrival photo' available for purchase

is not the same thing as the photo taken to link to your 'card' for security reasons .....

I think we all understand that.  We were just saying that ALL photos taken (for purchase, as you say) are annoying and not having to stop for the ID photo also is just another nice step to bypass if they are using passport photos instead.
